Every three years, our Lutheran Church--Missouri Synod gathers in convention to determine mission and ministry priorities for the coming three years. The 66th Convention of The Lutheran Church--Missouri Synod is July 9-14, 2016, in Milwaukee at the Wisconsin Center under the theme "Upon This Rock."
Staying abreast of what's happening at the convention will be easy - even for those who are not on the scene. That's thanks to an array of communications options, including internet live streaming,
Reporter Online, the Synod's official social-media outlets and Worldwide
KFUO Radio. You get to choose to Watch, Read, or Listen.

A live online broadcast of the opening Divine Service will be available on Saturday, July 9, 2016. The LCMS Livestream is scheduled to begin at 7:00 PM with pre-service music, and the service starts at 7:30 PM. (
Central Time - as are all times listed in this story).
Also scheduled for live streaming are all convention sessions. For July 10-13, 2016, those sessions are 8:00 AM-Noon and 1:30 PM-6:00 PM The final session on July 14, 2016 is scheduled for 8:00 AM-Noon.

Bishop Jamison J. Hardy officiated at the ordination of Adam Thompson on Sunday, July 3, 2016 at Zion Lutheran Church in Pevely, MO. Rev. Thompson will serve as the Associate Pastor of Fairlawn Lutheran Church in Fairlawn, OH. The Rev. J. Derek Mathers, Assistant to the Bishop and Mission Executive, will officiate at Adam's installation on Sunday, July 10, 2016. Adam is a 2016 graduate of Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, MO.

Bishop Amos Bolay is president of the
Evangelical Lutheran Church of Liberia (ELCL).
He
serves as the chief ecclesiastical leader, representative and spokesperson for the
ELCL both
at home and abroad.

Greetings English District! We are just over a week out from joining together for worship, service, and some amazing growth opportunities.I look forward to meeting and seeing you all in New Orleans, LA! Here are a few important housekeeping items regarding the 2016 National Youth Gathering, specifically, the English District happenings.
T-shirts and Dome Floor Seating:
If you ordered District t-shirts, they were shipped last week. If you have not received them, please contact me ASAP! We will be wearing the District shirts on Sunday, July 17, 2016. This year the Gathering planners have reserved the dome floor seating for districts on specific nights to help give everyone an opportunity to sit on the floor. The English District is invited to sit on the floor on Sunday, July 17, 2016. Please come and join us on the floor that evening. Gather and enter Gate G. The doors of the dome will open at 7:30 PM.
District Booth:
Just as in the past, we will be making luggage tags to hang on the gathering backpacks. We are looking for youth groups to sign up for a two-hour shift and provide one adult and three youth to man the booth. Your youth may rotate in and out throughout your two hours. District Event:
We are scheduled to ride on the Steamboat Natchez on Wednesday, July 20, 2016. We will begin boarding at 2:00 PM. Please be on time. You can find information about location by clicking

. There will be a meal on the boat. If you have dietary restrictions in your group, please let me know by July 14, 2016. Unfortunately, the company is unable to provide gluten-free options. Feel free to pack food for your gluten-free students. I apologize for this inconvenience. If you ordered tickets, please pick up your group's tickets sometime Sunday-Tuesday at the District Booth between the hours of 11:00 AM and 6:00 PM.

Christ Academy
These young men from English District - LCMS congregations are all smiles. They recently attended Christ Academy for high school men at Concordia Theological Seminary in Ft. Wayne, IN.
Christ Academy is a two-week summer conference for those interested in theology, worship, and, of course, those considering pastoral ministry as a possible vocation. The conference included class time, worship, and fellowship with peers and the seminary community, all which took place on the beautiful seminary campus. These young men got a first hand opportunity to experience how and what a pastor learns and how he is formed in the seminary environment.
Outside of the classroom there were opportunities for fellowship and fun such as trips to an area water park, a TinCaps baseball game, participation in capture the flag and other recreational activities that were great counterparts to underscore the joy of the entire experience of Christ Academy.

Project Video
Hanna Henson, a member of Lutheran Church of the Risen Savior in Green Valley, AZ,, was commissioned as an Administrator of Project Video by The Rev. Dr. John W. Stieve on Sunday, June 19, 2016. Project Video is a ministry of Wycliffe Bible Translators that trains native speakers throughout Asia to produce and present videos that tell the Gospel of Jesus Christ in the language of the people. The ministry is active in Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, China and the Philippines.
After spending a year in Thailand working with native speakers to produce and present videos of the Gospel, Hanna will now move to Minnesota to work at Project Video Headquarters. She will develop and lead service volunteer trips to Asia, coordinate administratively with U.S. Field Coordinators and assist in the development of the ministry.

Dear friends in Christ,
Our English District is privileged to work with many districts across our country. Recently, West Virginia has suffered great flooding. Although we don't have any churches there, the Ohio District - LCMS has a handful. We would like to help them out in their disaster relief efforts. Perhaps these efforts might be a bridge to bring the Gospel to people.

Fun on the Fourth
It was a rainy but well-attended Popcorn Social on the Fourth of July at Fairlawn Lutheran Church, Fairlawn, OH. Hundreds of people enjoyed music, food and activities like face painting, balloon making and bounce houses. The Fairlawn fireworks had an appreciative audience on the church lawn! Fairlawn Lutheran was represented also in the Fairlawn Parade, and members handed out candy and an invitation to the Popcorn Social and VBS.
