The Annual
Cincinnati Drag Races
|
|
It's time for the annual Cincinnati Drag Races in conjunction with 2nd Sunday's on Main 'Dancing in the Streets' edition. The festival will be held Sunday July 10th from Noon to 5pm. With the races starting at 4pm. At the festival enjoy Live Entertainment, Food Vendors, Craft Vendors, Salsa Dancing, Country Line Dancing, Your Favorite Drag Performers, Beer Garden, Drag Races, Big Bike Races and so much more!! The Races will begin at 4pm where teams of four gentlemen (or 3 gents and 1 lady) will run a relay up and down Main Street in complete drag including wig, dress, heels and purse all for the coveted high heel trophy. Then the ladies will put the peddle to the metal in the Big Bike Races in teams of four (or
3 ladies and 1 gent) up and down Main Street in sunglasses, motorcycle cap and vest to complete for the coveted bike trophy. Team registration is $40 ($10 per team member) and will be collected the day of the festival before the races. All registration money will be donated to Cincinnati Pride. The Courage to Fail

The Cincinnati chapter of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention in conjunction with the ISQCCBE and the Gay and Lesbian Center of Greater Cincinnati are shedding light on America's youth suicide rates - particularly among members of the LGTBQ community - during their fifth annual "Suicide is a Drag" celebration. Enjoy food and drinks and a drag show for the sake of helping transform prejudice and intolerance that have become unnecessarily detrimental to many. Cash bar available Valet parking included with price of ticket Graeter's ice cream bar All donations from the event go back to AFSP for research, prevention, education, & advocacy.

Michael Monks founded The River City News in the summer of 2011 after a career in broadcasting in the Cincinnati area that included several years as a TV news producer at WXIX and as a reporter for 700 WLW. He is a Covington native and a graduate of Southern New Hampshire University, Northern Kentucky University and Scott High School. A regular performer on Greater Cincinnati community theatre stages, Michael is also an historic preservation enthusiast, is passionate about urban issues, and is a big fan of NKU athletics.

PFLAG Cincinnati Two Monthly Meetings

PFLAG of Greater Cincinnati is thrilled to announce that a second monthly meeting is now being held every third Wednesday of the month at Mount Washington Presbyterian Church located at 6474 Beechmont Ave. PFLAG continues to meet on the second Tuesday of the month at Mount Auburn Presbyterian located at 103 William Howard Taft. Have you been tested lately? The Northern Kentucky Heath Department offers free HIV testing with results in 20 minutes. Counselors will be able to provide up to date information about HIV, treatment and PrEP. No Appointment is necessary.
Regularly scheduled testing events:
- Noon to 2 p.m. on the first Wednesday of each month at the Marguerite Robinson Community Center, 400 W. Sixth St., Newport, Ky.
- 5 to 7 p.m., the second Monday of each month at the Walgreens HIV Specialty Pharmacy, 12th and Madison, Covington, Ky.
- 2 to 4 p.m. on the third Thursday of each month at the Emergency Shelter of Northern Kentucky, 634 Scott St., Covington, Ky.
- 4 to 6 p.m. on the fourth Monday of each month at Walgreens, 3104 Dixie Highway, Erlanger, Ky.

The Imperial Sovereign Queen City Court of the Buckeye Empire, Inc. (The Court) is a local, Cincinnati-based 501-(c)(3) incorporated non-profit organization. The Court's purpose is to raise fund for contribution to and in support of any and all charitable [minimum 501 (c)(3)] causes. The Court represents the gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, questioning, allied communities, and all concerned in support of community functions.

Resource for LGBTQ Youth

GLSEN Greater Cincinnati hosts a weekly Youth Group meeting. The GLSEN Youth Group is a safe and welcoming space for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and questioning (LGBTQ) youth and their allies to gather. Each week the group explores a topic of interest to middle and high school-aged youth with an emphasis on LGBTQ issues. Youth group also includes weekly social time and a quarterly social outing or activity. GLSEN Youth Group relies on a series of youth generated ground rules to keep our space supportive and positive. We participate in days of action sponsored by GLSEN national and provide opportunities and resources for group members to organize actions in their school community, such as Day of Silence and Ally Week. - Click here for more details.
