PARMA Launches E-newsletter

Welcome to the first edition of the PARMA e-newsletter, a quarterly publication that will represent news for members, by members. Contributions are welcome! Simply submit your article(s) to ed@parma.com .

President's Message

The dust from the 2016 PARMAwood conference has settled and many of our 2015/2016 initiatives are well under way, this quarterly newsletter being one of them.

Before I share more about the initiatives, I would like to thank everyone who made our conference an overwhelming success. Attendees, sponsors, exhibitors, and staff, thank you for taking a chance on Indian Wells and for all you contribute to the success of PARMA!

What will risk management look like in 5-10 years? What are the common skills and responsibilities of our members? What will PARMA do to adapt to the challenges of our profession? These are just a few of the questions that PARMA is constantly exploring and addressing.

Winning the Battle of Workplace Violence

Homicide is the fourth-leading cause of fatal workplace injury, accounting for 11 percent of workplace fatalities in the private sector. It used to be worse.

Sensational shootings are often the starting place for discussions about workplace violence, and there has been no shortage of that in the news of late. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), homicide is the fourth-leading cause of fatal workplace injury, accounting for 11 percent of workplace fatalities in the private sector. That is a statistic that shocks a lot of people.

Hooray for PARMAWood!

This year's conference marked the 42nd Annual Conference. Education, entertainment and networking abound! The unique setting of this year's event afforded attendees a lot of networking opportunities in a scenic location.

"This conference made me feel invigorated and renewed my spirit toward my career. You can't get any better than that!"

This year's event was kicked off once again by a golf tournament to benefit the Ben C. Francis Risk Management Education Fund. Golfers were able to play, network and take in the stunning views of the Clive Clark's Celebrity Course. A large thank you goes out to our tournament sponsor, Heywood Friedman.

The proceeds from this and previous tournaments have helped to fund risk managers ability to attend the PARMA Conference. Some of our scholarship winners would not otherwise have an opportunity to attend this import educational event. This year alone, PARMA was able to issue seven scholarships. The Rat Pack at the PARMA 2016 Welcome Reception

Attendees were afforded an oppotunity to step into old hollywood (PARMAWood) during the welcome reception with entertainment featuring a performance bythe Rat Pack.

	PARMA 2016 Annual Banquet

The most important element of this conference was the educational opportunities. This year offered thirty nine (39) educational tracks covering risk management areas on different levels from beginning to advance. The keynote speaker Cheryl Cran provided attendees a look into the future while providing provocative ideas on how we can creatively manage the war for talent.

"I enjoyed meeting new people, making connections and learning important information that I can really take back to start the process of implementing."
