The Road Report - July 1, 2016

The Warren County Transportation Improvement District (WCTID), along with the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT), the City of Mason, Deerfield Township, and other local partners, are working on making transportation improvements throughout southwest Warren County to ensure our local infrastructure meets the needs of our growing community.

Here's your weekly update on work that's happening around town to improve safety, increase mobility and expand access to a growing number of business and world-class recreation destinations in our area.

Thank you for your patience during construction season, and as always, please slow down and drive safely.

To date, crews have completed the following:
  • Concrete curb for the Roundabout at Socialville-Fosters Road and Innovation Way has been completed.
  • Paving work for the Roundabout was also completed this week.
UP NEXT
This week, crews will focus on the following:
  • Striping and signage will be placed to help drivers with the new traffic pattern through the Roundabout.
  • Work on the bridge over I-71 continues as crews make progress on construction of the piers.
KEEP AN EYE ON
Some issues to be mindful of as work continues:
  • The six-week closure at Socialville-Fosters Road and Innovation Way continues through early July. We anticipate opening the Roundabout to traffic on Friday, July 8, weather permitting .
  • Additional nighttime work is ongoing on I-71, but the noise level should not be as intense as the recent pile driving work.
  • The 40-week closure on Socialville-Fosters Road at the bridge over I-71 continues through the end of the year, and the detour (Mason-Montgomery Road to Western Row Road to Columbia Road) remains in place during that time.

UP NEXT
This week, crews will focus on the following:
  • Utility work continues to relocate gas, electric, storm and phone systems.
  • Drilling work to install stone columns for the foundation of the drainage structures that will be installed in the area has begun.
KEEP AN EYE ON
Some issues to be mindful of as work continues:
  • We are working closely with the contractor and the Warren County Water Department to run a new water line that will go under the current Western Row Road near the 90-degree bend on the eastern portion of the project. There will be a closure on Western Row Road in the next few weeks in order to conduct this work. This will be a nighttime closure only. Signs providing advance warning to the public will be posted one week ahead of the nighttime closure. We will send out more details about the exact timing and detour information as the date(s) for this closure are confirmed.

To date, crews have completed the following:
  • Concrete curb from Soak City to Western Row Road has been completed.
UP NEXT
This week, crews will focus on the following:
  • Construction continues on the outside southbound lanes on Kings Island Drive as crews work on those lanes and the installation of the new bike path.
  • Electric work continues on the improved lighting along the new roadway.
  • Curb work should be completed in the next several days.

KEEP AN EYE ON

Some issues to be mindful of as work continues:
  • There are no full closures or detours in place related to this work; however, there are various lane closures and traffic impacts throughout the project area, primarily from Soak City Drive to the new entrance of Kings Island. If it's been a while since you've driven this road, the traffic pattern has likely changed, so please slow down, read the signs, and be mindful of other drivers as you drive through this area.

To date, crews have completed the following:
  • Paving work from Auburn Place heading west to Butler-Warren Road within the project area has been completed, except for the final asphalt course and driveway work; that area has reopened to traffic.

  • Crews are working on building retaining walls for the sidewalks.
  • Additional paving work will take place from Auburn Place to the east end of the project.
KEEP AN EYE ON
Some issues to be mindful of as work continues:
  • Irwin-Simpson Road between Charleston Park and Butler-Warren Road is currently closed to through traffic, but local traffic and residents will have access to the area throughout construction. The road is expected to reopen in November of 2016.
  • The detour is Butler-Warren Road to Socialville-Fosters Road to Snider Road, and is marked with detour signage.
  • Butler-Warren Road will remain open but periodic lane closures may take place intermittently over the course of the project.
