City News: Your Weekly Update
Week of July 5, 2016

Play it Safe on Folsom's Trails
It's one of the busiest times of year on Folsom's trails. Thousands of walkers, runners and cyclists take advantage of the warm, sunny weather and 45-mile trail system that meanders through open space and green belts and along waterways.  The City of Folsom encourages all trail users to be good stewards of the trails.
  • Show courtesy to other trail users at all times
  • Respect the environment and the rights of property owners.  Keep dogs on a leash and remove pet feces
Bicyclists:
  • Keep to the right side of the trail
  • Yield to pedestrians
  • Pass on the left side of oncoming pedestrians/joggers
  • Ride at a safe speed; single-file in congested conditions or in areas with reduced visibility
Pedestrians:
  • Keep to the left side of the trail (facing oncoming cyclists)
  • Watch for other trail users
  • Maintain single-file in congested conditions and in areas with reduced visibility

Report any issues on trails- such as graffiti or damaged pavement- with Folsom Connect, an online and mobile platform for submitting and tracking non-emergency service requests. To download the app, visit your app store and search for Folsom Connect or visit www.folsom.ca.us. For more information about trail safety, contact City of Folsom's Bicycle and Trails Coordinator Jim Konopka at [email protected] or 916-351-3516.
Save the Date for 2016 Community Service Day
Save the date for the third annual Community Service Day on Saturday, September 17. This major citywide event mobilizes hundreds of volunteers of all ages and interests to complete service projects throughout Folsom. The mission is to make a positive, lasting impact in the community. Volunteer projects will be announced August 8. Learn more at www.folsomcommunityservice.org .
Garbage and Recycling Collection Calendar
This July, Folsom residents will receive the annual mailing of the green waste and recycling collection calendar, along with a SmartCart flyer listing acceptable materials for different colored waste containers. Find this useful information on the City of Folsom website at www.folsom.ca.us/smartcart.
Tickets on Sale for Growl, Howl and Wine
Tickets are on sale now for the annual Growl, Howl and Wine tasting event, a benefit for the Folsom City Zoo Sanctuary. The September 17 event features regional wineries, craft breweries, and local restaurants. Browse the selections and join the silent and live auction bidding for a variety of art, gift baskets, excursions, personal services, and the popular Wall of Wine. Live music by the Have Mercy band and visits with some of the Zoo Sanctuary's animal ambassadors add to the fun. (Note: this event is for ages 21+)
The Folsom Zoo Sanctuary provides a home for both native and exotic wild animals that have been orphaned, injured, or confiscated from unsafe and illegal situations. The Zoo Sanctuary also serves as an educational facility to teach responsible behavior toward all animals. Proceeds from the Growl, Howl and Wine event help provide the resources to feed and care for the animals and maintain the Zoo's outreach programs.
Individual tickets are $36 before July 16, $40 in advance and $45 at the door; reserved tables for eight are $450. Visit www.FolsomZooFriends.org/GHW for tickets and information.
