A national campaign, which aimed at showing that American Muslims are speaking out against terrorism, extremism and fanaticism on a sustained basis and are reaching out to Americans of all faiths and ethnicities with a message of peace, unity and mutual acceptance.

Musri
of the Islamic Society of Central Florida and founder of American Islam convened a press conference on June 30 at the National Press Club in Washington announcing a "March for America: Americans Against Terrorism, Hate and Gun Violence" to be held on the National Mall on July 23. FFEU is one of the main interfaith organizations spearheading the rally, which is expected to draw thousands of Americans of all backgrounds to say no to extremism and violence and to demand an end to the demonization of American Muslims.
FFEU Muslim-Jewish Program Director Walter Ruby was a keynote speaker alongside, Imam Musri, Imam Mohamed Magid (ADAMS Center) and Dr Sayyid Syeed (ISNA).

Interfaith Iftar Dinner and Welcoming the Refugees
The Foundation for Ethnic Understanding is supporting or partnering with different organizations in hosting a series of interfaith Iftars

- June 2, Welcome Refugee Dinner at Temple Rodef Shalom, Falls Church VA
On June 2, more than 200 Jews and Muslims, including about 40 recently arrived Syrian refugees, came together at

Shalom in Falls Church, VA for a joyous Welcome Dinner for Syrian refugees. The dinner, which was initiated by FFEU and co-sponsored together with

Shalom, McLean Islamic Center, Syrian American Council and Greater Washington Muslim-Jewish Forum, was the first Welcome Dinner to be held in a synagogue, among similar dinners being held houses of worship across the country as part of Refugee Welcome Month.

- June 14, interfaith Iftar at the Nusantara Foundation
The Nusantara Foundation led by FFEU's partner, Imam Shamsi Ali, held its inaugural Interfaith Iftar on June 14. The inspirational event was attended by Muslim, Jewish and Christian leaders as well as interfaith activists including FFEU Executive Director Chris Sacarabany.
Condolences were expressed to the families of the victims of the Orlando shootings. Speakers voiced their commitment to fighting hatred and intolerance and to building bridges of understanding between communities.

- June 23, NYC Muslim-Jewish Solidarity Committee's Second Annual Iftar
Our young Leadership partners, the NYC Muslim-Jewish Solidarity Committee, organized their 2nd Annual Iftar at New York's Temple Emanu-El. The NYCMJSC brought a wonderful group of 200 passionate people willing to stand up for the other and to deepen Muslim-Jewish relations. The event supported by The Foundation For Ethnic Understanding-FFEU was held under the theme: Welcoming Refugees and New Immigrants. FFEU Executive Director Chris Sacarabany spoke at the event on behalf of the Foundation.

On June 25, 2016, the Islamic Society of Basking Ridge - ISBR and The Foundation For Ethnic Understanding-FFEU sponsored an Interfaith Iftar and Welcome Dinner for Syrian refugees attended by 200 people. Walter Ruby, FFEU Muslim-Jewish Program Director spoke on behalf of FFEU at the dinner. The event was covered by the
New Jersey Jewish News.

Walter was the only non-Muslim speaker at the Iftar Dinner held at the Diyanet Center of America (Turkish Cultural Center) in Lanham, MD. At the event, Walter assured the leaders of Muslim organizations attending the event: "American Muslims are not alone. FFEU stands shoulder to shoulder with you in fighting against Islamophobia and all forms of bigotry". The event, which was hosted by Turkish Ambassador H.E. Serder Kilic, featured remarks by leaders of the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA), Islamic Circle of North America (ICNA), Council of American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), United States Council of Muslim Organizations (USCMO) and All-Dulles Area Muslim Society (ADAMS Center).
Walter also conveyed FFEU's deep condolences to Ambassador Kilic about the terrorist attack on Istanbul Airport on the previous day.

Europe
On June 20, FFEU European Director Samia Hathroubi welcomed to her office in Paris a group of American students studying in the French capital for a one-day training session that included a presentation of the Muslim communities in France and Europe, and of the work of FFEU in strengthening Muslim-Jewish relations across the Continent.
Samia Hathroubi gave three presentations to a group of young Interfaith leaders in Lille (France) of her work in building times of communication and cooperation between Muslims and Jews in France and across Europe. During Hathroubi's interaction with the young leaders, she emphasized how impactful is the coming together of Muslims and Jews every November and December during the Season of Twinning, when Muslims and Jews hold joint programs in cities around the world.

Denmark on June 1-5.
The participants shared their stories, work and hopes to create a better understanding between people from different faiths in Germany, Sweden and Denmark.

In late May, Samia Hathroubi also chaired and facilitated the European symposium on "Forgotten Women" that spotlighted a report on the gender dimension of Islamophobia. Among the speakers, Professor John Esposito of Georgetown University gave a comprehensive and disturbing presentation of the normalization of Islamophobia around the world. The report and program on Forgotten Women highlighted the appalling situation vis a vis the growing wave of hate speech and hate crimes against Muslim women in Europe and the discrimination they face in the labour market.
Samia Hathroubi was a keynote speaker at the
Annual Gathering of Muslims, the largest Islamic conference in France, on May 15, at Le Bourget, France.
She was invited to talk about the challenges facing the French Muslim community and her work to bridge gaps between Muslim, Jewish and other communities.
