Young Women of Distinction
Thirty-three girls from Girl Scouts of the Missouri Heartland earned their Gold Award this year, and were honored at the Young Women of Distinction Ceremony in Springfield on June 4, 2016. Girls were presented their Girl Scout Gold Award by Girl Scouts of the USA CEO Anna Maria Chávez.

"This year we celebrate 100 years of Girl Scouts Highest Awards. These extraordinary young women have set their sights high and have earned the most prestigious award in Girl Scouting," said Chief Executive officer Anne Soots. "These young women are an inspiration to us all. They demonstrate leadership and dedication to making the world a better place."

Girl Scout Alumnae and previous Gold Award recipients were also invited to attend, and were recognized at the ceremony.
Volunteer Recognized for 70 Years of Service
Girl Scouts of the Missouri Heartland was pleased to honor Tipton resident, Charlotte Green, for her 70 years of service as a Girl Scout volunteer. Mrs. Green has been a Girl Scout member for 80 years. She started in the second-grade as a Brownie with the Girl Scout Council of Greater St. Louis in 1935. As a Brownie, she celebrated the 25th anniversary of Girl Scouts and had the honor of lighting the candle on the cake at a council wide celebration in St. Louis. She was proud to participate in the first national Girl Scout Cookie Program in 1936. She continued as a Girl Scout through all levels and earned The Curved Bar (the highest award in Girl Scouting at that time) around 1942.

Mrs. Green was presented with her 70 years of service pin and her 80-year membership numeral guard by Girl Scouts of the USA national CEO, Anna Maria Chávez on Saturday, June 4, 2016 at a Young Women of Distinction Ceremony in Springfield.

PRODUCT PROGRAM

The 2016 Girl Scout Cookie Program has wrapped up for another year and it's time to enjoy the summer! Cookie Credit was mailed on May 12, so if you have girls that have not received them, please contact your product program specialist. We have been working on contacting the recipients of the returned mail to get corrected addresses and get them mailed back out.

Troop bucks were mailed on Tuesday, June 14. Remember, Troop Bucks are not specific to one girl, but should be used to support the entire troop. Troop Bucks can be used for a variety of great things including: girl membership dues, council-sponsored event registration fees, purchases in the GSMH retail shops, and GSMH service unit day camps and qualifying events.

The hedgehogs are still on back-order and ABC is expecting them to arrive in late July. We apologize for this inconvenience.

Thanks for everything you have done to support the Girl Scout Cookie Program. Have a safe summer and we will see you back in the fall!

Go to Camp!
Crawford County, Kansas Girl Scouts had their annual Day Camp at Friendship Fields this past month. Over 90 girls participated and got to experience many traditional camp favorites like making crafts, singing songs, and playing games. They learned a lot of exciting outdoor skills like knot tying, knife safety, fire building, and cooking over a fire. Girls also tried activities like archery, canoeing, kayaking, fishing, hiking, and learning about wildlife. Shoutout to the almost 40 volunteers who helped make this day happen!
