Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
I first want to extend big thanks to all the staff and folks that made the Professional Church Workers Conference a great success. I, especially, want to thank The Rev. Keith A. Speaks and his staff at Hales Corners Lutheran Church in Hales Corners, WI for making things run smoothly while much was happening.
It was a blessing to see many of you! I enjoyed talking with you about what is going on in your churches and ministries.
During the conference, I was asked by many about the health and wellness of the district. I am pleased to say we are doing very well overall. Despite a tremendous drop in congregational giving, we are holding our own with the budget and with the resources God has entrusted to us. I am pleased to say two more congregations have heard the call to be participators in the work of the district financially and I am grateful. We continue to be blessed by many of you who contribute directly to the district. Thank you so much! It is my hope and prayer that we have 100% participation from all of God's people in the work with the district and the greater Church.
We are fast approaching the next Synod convention. Many issues will be dealt with and plenty of decisions will be made. Please keep the delegates and all participants in your prayers and ask that the Lord give them guidance and wisdom as we seek to walk together in His grace now and always.
Please make sure that you communicate with your delegates any last minute suggestions or advice you have for them. A brief update will be sent out after the convention that will highlight the actions taken at the convention.

Bishop Jamison J. Hardy officiated at the ordination and installation of Andrew M. J. Fedder on Sunday, June 26, 2016. Rev. Fedder will serve as the Sole Pastor of First Lutheran Church in El Cajon, CA. Andrew is a 2016 graduate of Concordia Theological Seminary, Ft. Wayne, IN.

Chad Kogutkiewicz was ordained and installed as an associate pastor of Hales Corners Lutheran Church, Hales Corners, WI on Sunday, June 26, 2016. The Rev. Keith Speaks officiated. Chad is a 2016 graduate of Concordia Seminary, St. Louis MO.

Zachary W. Marklevitz was ordained on Wednesday, June 22, 2016 at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Grand Rapids, MI. The Rev. Timothy P. Halboth officiated the ordination service.
On Sunday, June 26, 2016, The Rev. Zachary W. Marklevitz was installed at Grace Lutheran Church in Redford, MI. The Rev. Timothy P. Halboth, senior pastor of Grace, officiated the installation. Rev. Marklevitz will serve as assistant pastor. He is a 2016 graduate of Concordia Theological Seminary, Ft. Wayne, IN.

Jacob Benson was installed on Sunday, June 26, 2016 as a vicar with Philadelphia Lutheran Ministries (PLM). The Rev. Robert J. Kieselowsky officiated the service which was held at Shepherd of the City Lutheran Church in Philadelphia, PA. Over the course of the next twelve months, Vicar Benson will work closely with Rev. Kieselowsky, Executive Director of PLM, and The Rev. Adam J. DeGroot, Domestic Missionary of PLM. Together they will help establish a new congregation in the heart of Philadelphia. Your prayers for this work in our nation's fifth largest largest city are greatly appreciated.

Congrats to the Grads!
It is our goal to provide a spiritual, academic, and social environment guided by excellent leadership and instruction to prepare our students to aspire to their fullest potential and pursue a career of their choosing.
On Saturday June 4, 2016, Redeemer Lutheran School, Verona, PA said "goodbye!" to Carmella, Nathan, Jacob, Corey, Jason, and Sean. We ask the Lord's blessing be upon them as they seek His will for their next step. Congratulations seniors, class of 2016!

Love Your Neighbor
Supporting Veterans
Recently, Faith Lutheran Church and Catalina Lutheran Church, Tucson, AZ, assisted Operation Barnabas - Lutheran Church--Missouri Synod (LCMS) in helping our veterans. A great outreach and a wonderful way to love your neighbor. Two Operation Barnabas chapters worked together for support of veterans. They had a very productive day at the June 24, 2016 "Stand Down" at the Days Inn. They handed out 50 adult care packages, 15 children's bags, 500 homemade cookies, many reading glasses and sunglasses, and 25 Bibles. What a happy group working to bring Jesus into the lives of others.

OH, hosted a First Communion class for students. They learned about the Sacrament as well as participated in taking Communion. God's blessings to all of these students.

Vacation Bible School
Summer vacation means VBS at many of our churches and schools. Enjoy the photos of these students and volunteers having a wonderful time learning about our Lord and Savior - Jesus!

More Vacation Bible School News
Peace Lutheran Church in McMurray, PA had a Vacation Bible School on Saturday, June 25, 2016 from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM. The VBS theme was "Pets Unleashed".
- Key Verse: "Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares for you." 1 Peter 5:7
- Bible Point: Jesus cares for us.
There were a total of 20 volunteers and 33 children in attendance. The Fellowship Committee served a lunch with chicken nuggets, homemade macaroni and cheese, apples and an ice cream sundae bar.
The school-aged kids did two rotations through Bible Adventures, Pets Playground, Christ's Creatures Crafts with Music and More skits bookending the morning and afternoon sessions.
The preschoolers did Music and More and went to Puppy Preschool.
Before ending the day with Music and More, the kids did Projects with a Purpose showing God's love by making dog chew toys and cat treats to deliver to the local pet shelter.
A "Celebration Service" was held the next day on Sunday, June 25, 2016. The children sang and a PowerPoint presentation was displayed of the VBS activities.

Celebration in the Church
Fifty years of Ministry!
It was a glorious day at Hales Corners Lutheran Church, Hales Corners, WI on Sunday, June 26, 2016 as the congregation celebrated with The Rev. Dr. Keith L. Johnson the milestone of 50 years of the Office of the Public Ministry. Thirty-five of those years have been spent at Hales Corners. Congratulations and God's blessings to Pastor and Sylvia Johnson! To God be the glory!

CALIFORNIA SENATE BILL WOULD SEVERELY RESTRICT RELIGOUS FREEDOM FOR UNIVERSITIES
|
|
A bill currently in the California Senate would strictly limit the freedom of religious schools to admit and teach students, hire professors, and engage in religious practices in line with their beliefs. As currently written, California Senate Bill 1146 (SB 1146) would significantly challenge Concordia University Irvine's-and all Christian colleges and universities in California-ability to continue offering a Christ-centered education to their students. The Rev. Michael Morehouse, Regent, Concordia University, Irvine wrote, That which happens to higher education in California will impact all our Christian schools in time.
