Love your neighbor as yourself
SERVANT to SERVANT                            7-1-16

FROM THE BISHOP
Bishop Jamison J. Hardy
Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

I first want to extend big thanks to all the staff and folks that made the Professional Church Workers Conference a great success. I, especially, want to thank The Rev. Keith  A. Speaks and his staff at Hales Corners Lutheran Church in Hales Corners, WI for making things run smoothly while much was happening.

It was a blessing to see many of you! I enjoyed talking with you about what is going on in your churches and ministries.

During the conference, I was asked by many about the health and wellness of the district. I am pleased to say we are doing very well overall. Despite a tremendous drop in congregational giving, we are holding our own with the budget and with the resources God has entrusted to us. I am pleased to say two more congregations have heard the call to be participators in the work of the district financially and I am grateful. We continue to be blessed by many of you who contribute directly to the district. Thank you so much! It is my hope and prayer that we have 100% participation from all of God's people in the work with the district and the greater Church.

We are fast approaching the next Synod convention. Many issues will be dealt with and plenty of decisions will be made. Please keep the delegates and all participants in your prayers and ask that the Lord give them guidance and wisdom as we seek to walk together in His grace now and always.

Please make sure that you communicate with your delegates any last minute suggestions or advice you have for them. A brief update will be sent out after the convention that will highlight the actions taken at the convention.

Many blessings as you seek to serve and love your neighbor.

In Christ,
The Rev. Dr. Jamison J. Hardy, Bishop/President

Love Your Neighbor

Supporting Veterans

Recently, Faith Lutheran Church and Catalina Lutheran Church, Tucson, AZ, assisted Operation Barnabas - Lutheran Church--Missouri Synod (LCMS) in helping our veterans. A great outreach and a wonderful way to love your neighbor. Two Operation Barnabas chapters worked together for support of veterans. They had a very productive day at the June 24, 2016 "Stand Down" at the Days Inn. They handed out 50 adult care packages, 15 children's bags, 500 homemade cookies, many reading glasses and sunglasses, and 25 Bibles. What a happy group working to bring Jesus into the lives of others.

Fairlawn First Communion class

Fairlawn Lutheran Church, Fairlawn, OH, hosted a First Communion class for students. They learned about the Sacrament as well as participated in taking Communion. God's blessings to all of these students.

Dear Friends,

We greet you in the name of our Lord, Jesus Christ, the Savior of the world!

Click here to read our June newsletter. We want you to know what God is doing here, what you can pray for, and how you, too, are a part of God's mission work. When we pray, "Thy kingdom come," we are praying that God's kingdom would be among us and through our lips, Christ would be shared. Every Christian is a part of that proclamation no matter how shy or introverted!

God keep you in His grace. And God's kingdom come to you and through you!

We commend you to Christ,

Rev. Dale and Suzanne Kaster

CALIFORNIA SENATE BILL WOULD SEVERELY RESTRICT RELIGOUS FREEDOM FOR UNIVERSITIES
A bill currently in the California Senate would strictly limit the freedom of religious schools to admit and teach students, hire professors, and engage in religious practices in line with their beliefs. As currently written, California Senate Bill 1146 (SB 1146) would significantly challenge Concordia University Irvine's-and all Christian colleges and universities in California-ability to continue offering a Christ-centered education to their students. The Rev. Michael Morehouse, Regent, Concordia University, Irvine wrote, That which happens to higher education in California will impact all our Christian schools in time.
