Tampa Bay Newspapers: Pinellas OKs business 'points' for high-speed ferry pilot
As promised, St. Petersburg Mayor Rick Kriseman presented Pinellas County Commissioners with details of a business plan June 21 for a six-month high-speed ferry pilot set to launch Nov. 1 and continue through April 30, 2017.
Commissioners then voted 6-1 on a resolution approving the "primary business points" for the pilot program. Commissioner Dave Eggers voted no.

SPB Anne Lindberg: Rick Kriseman kicks off 'Not My Son' grassroots, anti-violence initiative
Noting that southern St. Petersburg has suffered long-term poverty and disenfranchisement, Mayor Rick Kriseman earlier this year pledged he would bring full opportunity to the area's residents.
He will take the first step to reach that goal with the Thursday launch of a grassroots campaign to take back neighborhoods against violence. The "Not My Son" campaign is directed at African-American youths and young adults, aged 12 to 24, and their families. The idea is to make both aware of ways to fight crime before it begins and have families take pledges to help keep their children crime free.

ABC Action News: St. Pete offering career fair, training opportunities
The city of St. Petersburg and Pinellas Technical College are teaming up for a career fair Wednesday, June 29. Dozens of local employers are participating and even doing on-site interviews.
Mayor Rick Kriseman says it's part of the city's efforts to reduce poverty, by getting people jobs. The event is really just a launching pad for a series of employment initiative it plans to offer to the community.

The Weekly Challenger: Foundation makes its inaugural round of grants to community organizations
At long last, the foundation created by the sale of Bayfront Medical Center in April 2013 made its first round of grants this June, totaling $3.9 million to 19 community-based organizations. From all appearances, the charitable vehicle - now called the Foundation for a Healthy St. Pete - is bent on breaking the mold.
Some in the community thought the foundation - originally called Bayfront HERO, which stood for Health Education and Research Organization, - was a flash in the pan that would quickly fade once Bayfront was unexpectedly sold for a second time in late 2013.
