Join Fairfax County staff for the second Embark Richmond Highway community meeting. This meeting will feature a 1) summary of comments and ideas from the May 9th community meeting, 2) an overview of community design and street network principles, 3) a presentation of draft Richmond Highway cross-sections, and 4) an open house to view draft community design concepts and cross-sections.
"Embark Richmond Highway is a multi-year effort involving land use and transportation planning, design and construction activities that will result in a bus rapid transit (BRT) system. The BRT will operate primarily on dedicated lanes along the Richmond Highway initially from the Huntington Metrorail Station to Fort Belvoir. The project will also include a future extension of the Metrorail Yellow Line to Hybla Valley." ~Fairfax County Department of Transportation

Our neighbor to the north is celebrating its 267th Birthday along with Independence Day, The RedBrickTown Blog has the details: "The City of Alexandria will celebrate its 267th and the USA's 240th birthday on Saturday, July 9, from 5:00pm to 10:00pm, at Oronoco Bay Park, 100 Madison St., (located at the Potomac River between Fairfax, Pendleton, and Madison Streets). In the event of inclement weather, fireworks only will be rescheduled for Sunday, July 10, at 9:30pm. Admission is free."

Join Friends of Dyke Marsh for a "sound walk," a walking and listening event, at dawn and/or or dusk in Dyke Marsh on July 16 in celebration of
World Listening Day, global annual celebrations encouraging awareness of our acoustic environments.
These are the times of day with the greatest sound transitions.
The theme of World Listening Day 2016 is "Sounds Lost and Found." We will listen as we walk in Dyke Marsh, recognizing changes in sounds of the past, present and future. Meet at the bulletin board at the Haul Road entrance at 5:15am and/or 7:45pm for one or both of these 1.5 hour deep listening events.

Good Shepherd Housing Fundraiser at Port City Brewing Company

Port City Brewing Co. and Good Shepherd Housing and Family Services present a Community Give Back event. Join us on Sunday, July 31, 2016 from 2-5 pm to help raise money to transform the lives of a family on the brink of homelessness with access to affordable housing, provide emergency relief to a struggling neighbor, or send a child in our programs to summer camp.
The
event will include a raffle. Prizes include passes to Blues Alley and GMU Basketball tickets for the 2016-2017 season. Raffle drawing will be at 4 pm. Proceeds from the event and a portion of sales from the event will benefit Good Shepherd Housing and Family Services.

Zika Virus Briefing with Fairfax County Department of Public Health
