Meet Bunny Terry

Bunny Terry, Board member, is a 3rd generation New Mexican. She grew up in Logan, New Mexico, a village in the northeast corner of the state, and graduated from UNM. In 2012, she went to the ER thinking she had appendicitis, but was diagnosed with stage IV colon cancer. She was treated at the New Mexico Cancer Center and M.D. Anderson, and was declared cancer-free in 2013.

A passionate and tireless worker for cancer-related causes, Bunny also works as an Associate Broker for Keller Williams Santa Fe. In addition to being on the Board of the Cancer Foundation, Bunny works with Fight Colorectal Cancer, a national advocacy group.

Bunny says she wants her message to always be one of hope, of knowing that hearing the words "stage IV cancer" doesn't have to be the end of your life or the end of all your dreams for a future.

We are thankful that Bunny is working with us!

Volunteer Appreciation Lunch
On a beautiful day last week the 28 treatment room volunteers of the Cancer Foundation gathered at Quail Run for the annual Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon. This was an opportunity for the Foundation to say "Thank You" to our faithful volunteers and a wonderful way for all the volunteers to get together.

Our treatment room volunteers provide snacks, beverages, and blankets to patients. "Many people just need an ear and some time to talk about their struggles," says volunteer Jane Messinger. They also try to lend a helping hand to all of the nurses who tirelessly work so hard.

One patient shared, "those long hours in the chemo room were made so much easier because of the volunteers who were there every day with kind words and encouragement." This personal attention reduces stress for patients and allows them to focus on completing their treatment and getting healthy.

At the same time, the volunteers are rewarded through this experience. Bonnie Garr, a volunteer for more than eleven years, commented, "I had no idea when I started how very rewarding, and even moving, an experience it would be for me!"
