Join Us at These Upcoming CAAT Activities!

University Bound
University Bound is a summer program co-sponsored by the CAAT, Wayne State University (WSU), Macomb Community College (MCC), and the National Science Foundation (NSF). The program is targeted towards community college students considering transferring to WSU or other baccalaureate granting institutions. It's an opportunity for students to get acquainted with campus life. In the program, students attend two days of workshops geared at improving their college experience and supporting their goal of graduating with a bachelor's degree. Linking the two days of workshops is an overnight stay in one of WSU's dormitories.
The workshops are planned to:
- Increase academic skills
- Experience campus life at an urban research university
- Expand confidence, affirm positive attitudes, and enhance interpersonal skills
- Explore college/university services
University Bound 2014 will be held on Monday and Tuesday, May19-20. If you are a MCC student interested in this program, please check out the 2014 flyer and application. Evaluations from past attendees have been very positive, so don't miss out and consider joining us! The event is limited to 40 students, so apply today! The application deadline is May 2, 2014. CAAT to Participate in NSF ATE Day Event
The event is designed to provide an overview of the NSF ATE program and will include information on how to:
- Get started and apply for grants
- Network and partner with existing ATE Centers and projects
- Become involved and participate in active programs and use existing materials
Speakers will include Dr. Celeste Carter, NSF ATE lead program director, and Dr. Anand Gramopadhye, PI for the CA2VES ATE Center. The panel discussion will help those new to the NSF ATE program gain perspective from current PIs and directors from both established and new ATE projects and Centers.

The EDTA Conference and Annual Meeting is the premier annual event for companies and industry professionals representing the entire electric drive value chain. At this event, participants network with colleagues across the supply chain, learn best practices from the entire industry, and experience first-hand the latest innovations in electric drive.

CAAT to Co-Sponsor PlugVolt Energy Storage Seminar
The CAAT will co-sponsor the PlugVolt Energy Storage Seminar which will take place on May 28-29, 2014, and is being hosted by NextEnergy at the NextEnergy Center in Detroit, MI. It is anticipated that the event will be attended by approximately 100 people. CAAT Director, Bob Feldmaier, will speak at the luncheon on May 28th to share with attendees the battery technology training opportunities available through the CAAT at Macomb Community College (MCC).
This seminar will focus on present and future needs of portable and stationary electrochemical energy sources and will highlight the latest technological developments designed to satisfy application requirements.
In-depth discussions will include worldwide status quo of some raw materials presently under research and technological advances and recent developments in anodes, cathodes, electrolytes, separators, and other battery components.

Macomb Community College will be hosting free Electric Vehicle Development Technician Information Sessions at their South Campus in room 301 of the John Lewis Community Center (K-Building) as follows:

Wednesday, May 21, 2014, from 6-8 p.m.
Monday, June 2, 2014, from 3-5 p.m.

CAAT Participates in 2014 SAE World Congress
This year the CAAT displayed a poster at the annual SAE World Congress & Exhibition which took place April 8-10 in Detroit, MI. This annual event assembles the best talent in the automotive industry; experts, management teams, engineers, and executives alike gather to collaborate and address current challenges, celebrate evolution and achievement over the last 100+ years, and promote the multitude of opportunities fundamental for a successful future. It was attended by approximately 10,000 people.

CAAT Conducts its First Webinar!
On April 17, the CAAT conducted its first webinar titled, "Preparing Technicians for Careers in Advanced Mobility" for 23 registered attendees. The webinar discussed how the CAAT provides curricula in advanced automotive engineering technology for middle-skill technicians by:
- Working closely with industry to identify future education and training requirements
- Funding projects to develop new curricula demanded by industry
- Housing and disseminating the latest curricula to schools

CAAT Joins Panel in Utica Community Schools' Professional Development Day
The CAAT recently participated in Utica Community Schools' Professional Development Day for Teachers in the Industrial Arts/Engineering Pathway, held at the Instructional Resource Center in Sterling Heights, MI on April 15, 2014. This electric vehicle information session featured an overview of engineering/technical occupations in demand by Al Lecz of the Workforce Intelligence Network (WIN), and information on electric vehicle architecture, components, and product development was provided by Anthony Tisler of Chrysler. Bob Feldmaier, director of the CAAT at Macomb Community College (MCC), and Chih-Ping (CP) Yeh, division chair and professor, Engineering Technology, Electric-Drive Vehicle Engineering at Wayne State University (WSU), joined Lecz and Tisler in a panel discussion and Q&A session.  |

Visit the CAAT at the 6th Annual Michigan Electric Vehicle Show and Rally
The CAAT will once again participate in the Annual Michigan Electric Vehicle Show and Rally to be held on Saturday, June 7, 2014, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., at Schoolcraft College in Livonia, MI. Don't miss this opportunity to see the latest technology and products available for electric vehicle (EV) owners, talk to experts, and meet EV manufacturers and owners. Stop by the CAAT/Macomb Community College table to learn more about our EV Technology Development Certificate Program, and join Doug Fertuck, CAAT assistant director, for a panel discussion on EV development and customer acceptance.

The CAAT has completed its annual ATE center survey and it's now available on our website. This survey is used by the National Science Foundation (NSF) to collect and report information about the NSF's ATE program on an annual basis. This information is obtained via an annual survey sent to each ATE center and is used by the NSF to report to Congress the activities and achievements of the overall ATE program.
