MEET SHELBY RHYNE, RC Tennis Association Executive Director
When did you come to Rockingham County?   We moved here in October 2014 after living in Columbus Ohio for 14 years.

Where did you learn to play tennis?  I learned to play in Gastonia NC as a teenager but joined my first USTA Adult league when we lived in Columbus. A friend invited me to volunteer as a member of the Board of Directors of the Greater Columbus Tennis Association and I was hooked on community tennis.  Volunteering with Buddy Up Tennis - a tennis and fitness program for children and adults with Down syndrome - made me passionate about tennis as a game for everyone.

What is something most people don't know about you?  I play a 4-person tile game called Mahjongg weekly at the Garden of Eden Senior Center and travel to tournaments across the country with friends.

"We've created a community tennis association in Rockingham County at the just the right time to join a nationwide effort by USTA to create the next generation of tennis players. I love meeting the children and their families on the playgrounds, gyms and courts every day. Tennis is just so much FUN."

We hope you notice that something EXTRAordinary is happening in Rockingham County.  We're growing a tennis community here.

Did you notice the word FREE is almost every section of our newsletter?  RC Tennis is funded by grants from USTA, Xerox, and individual sponsors.     THANKS to this support RC Tennis hosted 152 events for over 1900 participants in 2015.

We hope to see YOU in 2016.
