Foundation Grant to Oswegoland Park District

and the American Heart Association

Supports a Life Saving Initiative

Oswego, IL - The Community Foundation of the Fox River Valley was recognized at the Oswegoland Park District's PrairieFest on Friday, June 17, 2016.

Foundation president Jeff Hartman spoke at the event, along with Contessa Gibson of the American Heart Association.
During the festival's Main Stage Moments, the Community Foundation was acknowledged for its support of a joint initiative between the Oswegoland Park District and American Heart Association. The goal of this initiative, called "Hero Training: Be Someone's Heart Throb," is to increase bystander use of CPR.

T his pa st May the Community Foundation awarded Oswegoland Park District and the American Heart Association a grant to purchase personal CPR training kits. The kits include a CPR learning m anikin, a skills practice DVD, instructions, and the latest scientific information regarding CPR.

The  Park District will use the kits for various training opportunities throughout the year. During next summer's PrairieFest, a booth will be set up for CPR demonstrations, and visitors will be able to take the kits home to share the  training with family and friends. The Park District's goal is to train 300 people in CPR by May of 2017.

During the Main Stage Moments presentation, Darice Bohne and Ariana Castillo, both from Oswego, were celebrated for saving the lives of two strangers by performing CPR. Both women were presented with the American HeartSaver Hero Award for their actions.

"The Community Foundation of the Fox River Valley is able to provide this grant because of the generosity of many individuals, all of whom care deeply about our community and the residents who live here," said Community Foundation Jeff Hartman. "It is partnerships like these, between the Foundation, American Heart Association and Oswegoland Park District, that are changing people's lives every day. We are honored to be a part of this life saving community initiative."
