Some have questioned the sensibility of in-state tuition for undocumented persons so I felt a clear statement of the facts seems appropriate.

Undocumented individuals receiving in-state tuition have:
  1. Lived in Kansas for three years
  2. Graduated from a local high school
  3. Initiated the process for naturalization
  4. Secured paying for tuition without scholarship or grant assistance
  5. Helped increase enrollment at WSU
Additionally, it does not cost local tax payers any money!

It makes sense to me to encourage these people in their quest for higher education.  It makes no sense for Sedgwick County government to lobby the State Legislature and the Board of Regents to change the already approved policy of in-state tuition.

And regarding WIC benefits, it makes no sense to deny Federal support (my tax money) from coming back to my home community.  It is clearly a humanitarian benefit and denying the resource will only send this benefit to another state.  It will not save our local tax payers any money.  It makes sense to me to keep our community healthy.
