NOTES
 VOTE FOR THE ACCESS STRENGTH™

As an industrial design student at the University of Cincinnati, Ryan Eder saw a wheelchair-bound man struggling with equipment at a gym, and resolved to design a solution.  A decade later, his idea is reality, and it's drawing attention from healthcare, accessibility and design organizations. The Access Strength™ from Eder's company IncludeFitness, a digital health platform pairing HIPAA-compliant cloud software with inclusive fitness equipment, is a top winner up for the 2016 International Design Excellence People's Choice Award!  You can vote for it here -- scroll down to the T's and click on The Access Strength™.

The Access Strength™ is eligible for IDEA People's Choice because it's been named a top winner, meaning judges have deemed it worthy of either gold or silver in the global competition; those results, along with People's Choice and Best in Show will be announced August 17.

Interestingly, Eder's renderings for what became The Access Strength won IDEA Gold, Best in Show and People's Choice in 2007.  "It means more now than it did back then," Eder said.  "Ten weeks of effort went into the original concept for a fitness machine that could be used by anyone regardless of their ability or mobility. What started as an idea to make an inclusive piece of equipment evolved exponentially over nine years into a digital health platform with hardware and software that loops in patients, payers and providers."

IncludeFitness™ recently won bronze in the 2016 Medical Design Excellence Awards in the Rehabilitation and Assistive Technology Category, and a Spark! Design Award.

Finally, if you'd like to read more about Ryan Eder's persistence over those nine years, noted  Enquirer columnist Paul Daugherty captured it beautifully in "Chalk One Up For the Human Spirit."

ON THE COVER

Rodney Williams and his team at LISNR have earned plenty of media coverage as pioneers in the Internet of Sound with their SmartTones™ technology.  CNBC named LISNR to its Disruptor 50 list for the second year running, and Black Enterprise put Williams on the cover, proclaiming "This is the next big name in tech."
