Safety Alert: Chicago River Rising

The Chicago River in Albany Park is nearing flood level. Currently, city crews are in the Albany Park neighborhood helping to mitigate the situation.

As a precautionary measure, the City is asking people who live within one block of the River to please relocate their vehicles in order to avoid damage from flood waters.

You can keep track of the height of the Chicago river on the National Weather Service website.

All residents, please follow these safety instructions:
  • Please do not go to the banks of the river to see how high it is.
  • If you see standing water below overpasses or otherwise on the street, please do not attempt to drive through it. Cars that try to pass through standing water are at risk of stalling.
  • If you experience flooding in your home or business, please get to a safe place, and notify 311.
  • If catch basins on your street are blocked and your street is flooding, please notify 311.
