Keiro: Working to Meet the Needs of Our Community's Seniors

In its June/July 2016 issue,  AARP The Magazine highlighted "25 People Who Bust Age-Old Myths" and included in the short list was 17-year old inventor, Kenneth Shinozuka. In 2015 Keiro worked with Shinozuka on a pilot project of SafeWander at Keiro Nursing Home.

"I am grateful for Keiro's generous offer to beta test SafeWander and their enthusiastic support through the two-month process." Kenneth Shinozuka, Inventor
His invention is now available and Shinozuka has been the subject of several news features: http://www.safewander.com/in-the-news/

We are sad to share that Kenneth's grandfather, who inspired him to invent Safewander has passed away, but do wish Kenneth well as he starts his freshman year at Harvard.

Keiro recognizes that its mission to enhance the quality of senior life in Our Community includes the use and deployment of technology as a means to assure the safety of older adults, lighten caregiver burden, and increase connections.
Keiro's popular Life Long Learning Course,
OASIS Introduction to iPad, presents the basics of iPad iOS8 in a 6 week course, 2 hours per class, once a week. Studies have demonstrated that seniors have successfully utilized iPads and other tablets to stay connected with friends and family members, which is critical to reducing loneliness and social isolation. Next class begins August 16 and runs through September 20, 10 a.m. to noon, and meets at Wintersburg Presbyterian Church (2000 N. Fairview St. Santa Ana, CA 92706). Registration is required. For more information and to register for this FREE course: Please contact Kanako Fukuyama at kfukuyama@keiro.org or (213) 873-5709.
