Let the Word of Christ - the Message - have the run of the house. Give it plenty of room in your lives. Instruct and direct one another using good common sense. And sing, sing your hearts out to God!
~Colossians 3.16(The Message)
Dear Friends,
Here's a question I've been wrestling with: Given how many other groups and movements legitimately lay claim to our loyalty today, can the Church ever expect to exert the level of influence in our lives that it once did?
On Sunday, many of you shared with me how you appreciated Pastor Jen and I praying and preaching about what was happening in our world, and how the parable that Jesus told spoke into that reality. It did not matter that you or I had a difference of opinion, what mattered is that our faith spoke into what was happening in the world.
Most of us have multiple allegiances and are associated with lots of different groups that lend us part of our identity. What, then, do we expect of the church? Do we expect it to be "first among equals," taking priority over every other affiliation (even when we often devote more time, energy, and money to other groups)? Do we expect it to help bring our other activities into focus, that we might see these different enterprises in light of our faith? Do we treat it as one of several groups that is important to us? Interesting questions.
I lean toward the middle option, hoping that my engagement in church life and worship deepens me in faith so that the Christian story, the Jesus story, provides a lens through which I look at and make sense of the rest of my life. For Hosanna, the place we gather to be God's people- to offer confession and receive forgiveness, to hear God's word, to pray together, to sing, to share a meal of bread and wine and be sent out to be God's people in the world- is at worship. It is important that we do this together.
See you at worship- either at Lakeside Park or at Hosanna!
~Pastor Linda
PS: Be in the know!! Council Roundtable on Sunday following worship- highlighting the new work of the Personnel Committee; either at the Gazebo or in the Garden Chapel if inclement weather.

Tell your neighbors - bring your friends and family to the Forest Lake Bluegrass Festival! A great community event to meet new people and enjoy some good food and music with a silent auction and games for the kids!
This event is a fundraiser for local, national and international charities and is sponsored by local churches in the Forest Lake area. The international charity chosen to benefit from this year's event is Feed My Starving Children.
The local charity to benefit this year is Haven Home, a mission of Forest Lake Area Mission for Families that will provide housing for temporarily displaced families in the Forest Lake school district.
Do you love event planning? Hosanna is hosting a booth again this year and we need volunteers to help plan, set up and represent Hosanna on July 30th. If you are interested in volunteering for this fun event, please contact Susy Richey at 651-464-4099 or Kathy Peterson at 651-982-9829.
