" When we look at our environment and see many things that are not desirable, instead of thinking of them as conditions which fate has imposed upon us, we should recognize them as the orderly procession of the Law of cause and effect . . . ."  Ernest Holmes

In fact, you CAN change the world.  The mystics of history agree with Dr. Holmes that nothing is  imposed from "out there."  Instead, everything is on constant flux and flow and when we change the cause, the condition changes too.

What is happening in our world is not fated, or predestined, or permanent.  You and I have the power to change it.  What we have to do is institute a new cause.

When we look out at our environment, we see not what we wish to see, but what we EXPECT to see.  In order to see something different, we have to change our expectations.  We change our expectations by changing what we believe about the world.  We change our beliefs by choosing and then reinforcing, for as long as it takes, a new idea -- until it becomes part of us.

For example, if I think every person who is _________________ (fill in the blank) is dangerous, then every time I see a person like that I will feel fear. Every time I read the news I will see a story that reinforces my already-existing belief.

So if I want to see something different in the world I have to change my belief. How about "All people are intrinsically good" as a new belief?  If we all started reinforcing that until it became what we believed,  our belief begins to take over, replacing the old "scary" beliefs. And when that happens, we see proof of the correctness of our belief everywhere.

If you think this sounds odd, stop and consider that it is exactly what happened to the old belief that the earth is flat.  Enough people started believing otherwise, even though it wasn't obvious. Today we know it's true because we have photographic proof.  Sometimes we have to stick with our changed belief even if other people don't believe it or the "facts" don't support it.

So today I choose to believe in goodness, love, justice, mercy, peace, truth, and Divinity.  I choose to believe it no matter what the circumstances may look like.  I seek "evidence" of the truth of my belief everywhere!

With great love,

Rev. CC
