The Summer Games in Rio de Janeiro begin Friday, August 5, and more than 10,000 athletes from 206 countries will participate in the first Olympics ever held in South America.
NPR's coverage has kicked off with several athlete profiles, and more are in the works. Off the field, stories to follow include the threat of Zika, political crisis, and doping. NPR's Olympics reporting team includes Lourdes Garcia-Navarro, who is based in Rio, and Tom Goldman, Melissa Block, Russell Lewis and Bill Chappell.
Coverage will air across NPR's newsmagazines now through Sunday, August 21. Online, the Olympics blog The Torch will engage digital audiences before, during and after the games. On social media, follow the @nprolympics Twitter handle, and look for Olympics-related posts on NPR's Facebook and Snapchat accounts.
