Improving Energy Efficiency

Questions about energy audits? Contact us at 216-592-2334 or

Energy consumption is one of the largest expense categories for many small businesses. COSE and its partners can offer members several programs to help assess current energy usage and opportunities to improve energy efficiency.
Dominion East Ohio and the Council of Smaller Enterprises (COSE) have partnered to offer nonresidential customers free
energy assessments.
Eligibility requirements: If you are a Dominion East Ohio customer and own or rent a building or space less than 25,000 square feet, then you are eligible for this program. This simple program saves participants an average of 25-30% on their operating costs. The program consists of 5 steps:
- Schedule online. Fill out the program enrollment form.
- Share your most recent natural gas and electric bill. COSE's auditors will use your bills to better understand how your building is using energy.
- Conduct the on-site assessment. COSE's auditors will do an on-site assessment to identify areas of your building that can be improved. This will include an analysis of the HVAC, building envelope, water heating and distribution, lighting, plug loads and building controls. On-site assessments are typically about an hour.
- Review the results. Within two weeks of the assessment, COSE will send you a report that outlines the findings from your assessment. Often times improvements can be made at no cost or with a modest capital investment. COSE will review the report with you in person or by phone.
- Implement recommendations. COSE will help you prioritize the energy savings recommendations to develop an actionable energy efficiency strategy, and will connect you to quality service providers and capital resources to drive implementation.
