Dental Screening for Syrian Families
|
NASIMCO, in conjunction with the ISIJ of Toronto, is hosting a Dental Hygiene Clinic for Syrian Refugee families at the Jaffari Community Centre (JCC) on Sunday, August 7, 2016.
The event will involve dental screening (completed by dentists) for about 50 refugee families, in addition to activities for children and educational workshops for adults (i.e. social services, budgeting & banking, and resume writing & job hunting).
In preparation for the event, we are seeking assistance from volunteers to help with planning (in advance of the event) and logistics on the day of the event.

There was no looking back; this years retreat comprised of 38 participants and 6 dedicated volunteers. The journey
began the moment campers jumped onto the bus after Jum'ah on Friday, May 27, 2016.
Upon reaching the Ecology Retreat Centre, the campers were well received by an official welcome team followed by an orientation and a couple of ice breakers conducted by the camp officials and retreat organizers.
The first night provided for a beautiful starlit night and everyone enjoyed the guided star gazing session.
The weekend was fun-filled and relaxing with loads of activities in store like, yoga, hiking, meditation and swimming. There were l

of London and
Sr. Nicole Correri
of Hartford Seminary.

Scholarship opportunity -
CSAA Scholarship 2016-2017
NASIMCO has launched scholarships to be awarded to students for Community Service and Academic Achievement (CSAA).
The awards aim to encourage the youth of North American communities to excel in their academic achievements and also to reward them for their voluntary services in their respective communities.
The Application Deadline is August 7, 2016.

Ramadhan Campaign Against Hunger

NASIMCO Vice President, Sukaina Sumar-Ebrahim presents NASIMCO's contribution toward RCAH |
NASIMCO's contribution of CAD $20,000.00 towards Ramadhan Campaign Against Hunger (RCAH) results in a successful campaign which took place on Saturday, June 25, 2016 at the Jaffari Community Centre (JCC), in Toronto.
With the support of over
80 volunteers
the team was able to provide over 450 deliveries to families in need around the GTA and as far as Hamilton & surrounding area. These packages
consisted of Ramadhan food items like dates, sugar, oil, etc. and Eid gifts for children of these families.
A huge thank you goes out to the JCC, our community members, the volunteers, the donors for all the support and assistance.

Eid Picnic
On Saturday, July 9, 2016, the ISIJ of Toronto hosted an Eid Picnic for the community at large. After a month of fasting and spiritual reflection during the holy month of Ramadhan it was a day of socializing, great food and fun activities all whilst celebrating the festive day of Eid-Ul-Fitr.
The picnic was held among the beautiful natural landscape and diverse wild life in the Island Lake Conservation Area located in Orangeville, Ontario. Throughout the day, there were a variety of activities such as hiking, sports, a scavenger hunt, a raffle for a Ziyarat trip and much more.
Toronto Jamaat Chairlady, Sr. Shabnees Siwjee, Mukhi, Br. Mehboob Siwjee along with many volunteers, both young and young at heart had tirelessly prepared for the picnic and were rewarded with the large turnout of over 900 participants. It was a memorable day for all who had attended.
Annual Interfaith Ramadhan Dinner - Minnesota
On Saturday, June 18, 2016 the Ja'afari Islamic Center (
JIC
) in Brooklyn Park
, Minneapolis opened their doors to 50 guests from the community which included churches, synagogues and members of the sheriff department.
The hospitality and warmth of the jamaat members was applauded by the guests. One of the guests was Rabbi Jill Crimmings who wrote a blog which you may read
