MOVING ON, CARRYING ON

Br. Shakeel Syed has stepped down as the Shura Council's Executive Director. Last Friday, July 15th was his last official day. The notes of appreciation arrive daily, in our inbox and each one is forwarded to him.

Although we will miss him at the Shura Council, he has gone onto another nonprofit, OCCORD, whose mission is near and dear to Br. Shakeel's heart. We wish him the very best of everything in his new position and keep him in our prayers.

Hajj SeminarSpots are filling up rapidly for our Free 2016 Hajj Seminar in partnership with Dar El Salam Travel on Sunday, August 7, 2016. Open to all who are planning to travel to Hajj in their lifetime.

Although this is a FREE event. Registration is required, seating is limited. Refreshments will be served. 

Once again we will be having our Chairman, Dr. Muzammil Siddiqi, give a talk about the rules of Hajj as well as the spiritual benefits. We will also have a doctor from Umma Clinic, representatives from US Customs and Border Patrol and the Transportation Security Administration.

The 2016 Election year is in full swing. As the Republican National Convention gears up in Cleveland, OH, the Islamophobia keeps growing. A Mosque in Florida was removed as a polling place. Now is the time to get to know your neighbors and let them get to know us.

Injustice continues. France was the site of another mass killing, Turkey's government survived a coup, more people of color died and police officers are being targeted.

And sometimes justice is served. Former LA Sheriff, Lee Baca's plea deal was rejected by judge.
