A Super-Exciting Discovery From Jura!

This past Saturday we hosted a wonderful tasting with Michael Riahi, a small importer of beautifully crafted, artisan wines. Michael (with wife Gayle Martin) also own the wonderful local cheese shop, Plum Plums.
His selection of wine is carefully chosen and focused on quality and attention to clean farming, from small, family owned operations.

Every wine was special but two stood out, big time (one is a stupendous Vacqueyras, which I will offer at a later date).

The winner, and not just by my opinion, was a fantastic, 100% Savagnin from the Jura region.
The wine is simply fantastic. It is not made in an oxidative style, so it's pure, fresh, vibrant, alive and full of mineral complexity. There is a bit of French oat treatment but it is perfectly integrated and it complements the wine's personality to absolute perfection. At the end of the tasting, the wine was completely sold out!

I cannot imagine many wines being better than this for this time of the year, with a piece of grilled fish, provencal dishes, cheeses and summer fare in general.

I cannot recommend this amazing wine highly enough and I am sure it would make everyone more than happy.

It's a real gem!

Arriving on Friday and only 5 cases are available!

You'll be in love just by smelling this wine! Honeysuckle, white peaches and flowers. On the palate, the wonderful acidity and slight salinity are simply mouthwatering. A slight touch of French oak complements the wine's array of flavors to perfection. Truly a superb bottle of Jura white!

Wine of The Week!

Cantalupo Ghemme Collis Carellae 2007

$41.59 per bottle

As good as many Baroli selling for twice as much!

"The 2007 Collis Carellae blasts out of the glass with a compelling melange of dried cherries, smoke, tobacco, licorice, all in the full-bodied, supple style of the year. Still, there is plenty of focus and energy in the glass - not to mention considerable tannin - that will ensure at least medium-term aging. If experience has taught me anything with these wines, though, is that they often drink well for years beyond what most people expect."  94 points Antonio Galloni (Vinous Media)
