VASSP President Mike Davidson Appointed to 2016 SOL Innovation Committee &
VASSP Past President Brian Matney Reappointed
In accordance with House Bill 894, passed by the 2016 Session of the Virginia General Assembly, the Secretary of Education Anne Holton, upon receiving recommendations for appointments from the Virginia Association of Secondary School Principals and other organizations established and appointed the 2016 Standards of Learning Innovation Committee. The purpose of the Committee, under the direction of the Secretary, is to periodically make recommendations to the Board of Education on (a) the Standards of Learning assessments, (b) authentic individual student growth measures, (c) alignment between the Standards of Learning and assessments and the School Performance Report Card, and (d) ideas on innovative teaching in the classroom.
VASSP is pleased to report that it now has two of its members on the prestigious Committee: 2016-2017 president, Michael Davidson, principal, Marion Senior High School, Smyth County Public Schools, has been appointed to a two-year term on the SOL Innovation Committee, and 2012-2013 president, Dr. Brian Matney, program evaluation specialist, Office of Research and Evaluations, Virginia Beach City Public Schools, has been reappointed to another two-year term.
