Summer News
On behalf of all the children, staff, and volunteers at Emmanuel, we wish you a relaxing and fun-filled summer and hope you had a happy Independence Day!

"It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery."
Galatians 5:1

New Children!

So far this summer, we have received more than 25 new children.  They range in age from 1 - 15 years old. We are excited to welcome all of them and are thankful for the opportunity to raise them up in the ways of our Lord.  Please lift them up in your prayers - that they continue to thrive here at Emmanuel.  Many of these new children do not have sponsors. If you are interested in sponsorship and relationship-building opportunities, please contact Sarah at [email protected] for more information.

Congratulations!

Congratulations to Emerson A. Larios for graduating from the University of Mobile.  Emerson lived at Emmanuel before he received a scholarship to the United States. He graduated May 14th of this year with a B.S. in Biology with a minor in Chemistry and a concentration in Pre-Medicine.  He has been accepted for the Master's in Biology program at Auburn and will begin this August.  He hopes to start Medical School in 2017.  Thank you to Dave and Kelly Milton for providing the spiritual, physical, and financial support that encouraged Emerson to reach for the stars!

Special Needs Classes

We are thrilled to welcome Carolina Gonzales Ortiz to our teaching staff.  She is teaching two different groups of our special needs children throughout the week, showing them how to write, read, and sound out letters and leading activities to improve their fine-motor skills.  She is a graduate of the
Universidad Pedagogica Nacional, and her students absolutely love spending the day learning with her.  Her favorite part of working with the kids with special needs is that she has the opportunity to reinforce in them that they are important and valuable both at Emmanuel and to the Honduran society as a whole.

Kids's Corner
Ronal Flores is a young man of 18 years old who lives at Emmanuel.  He has recently stepped into the role of leading the praise and worship team and also helps at the small boys house.

"Emmanuel has impacted me by having the privilege to lead worship in the choir and to be able to show the boys I work with to be better every day. This has impacted me the most because God is using the work that I do in service of and for the benefit of others to change my life. My plans for the future are to go to university and finish studying.  My dream is to pursue business administration, music, and computer technology."

Power-Saving Efforts on Campus

Our dedicated maintenance team has been working hard around campus to improve energy efficiency.  So far, we have installed energy-efficient sink aerators and shower-heads for an estimated 30-40% reduction in water consumption and 2,000 LED lights both indoors and outdoors (with more to come!).  We have tested and will install AO Smith water heaters, which use 1/3 of the electricity of our current water heaters.  In the works as well are 200 energy-efficient toilets with a low flush rate and water flow filters at the wells to reduce sediment in the system.  All of these measures combined should produce a significant reduction in monthly power consumption.  All of this has been provided by RJ Johnson and the World Orphan Fund.  Thank you for your invaluable contribution to a more sustainable and energy-efficient campus!
