General Election Filing for City Council Starts Today
The City of Folsom's General Municipal Election will be held on November 8, 2016. Registered voters in the City of Folsom will have the opportunity to elect two councilmembers to the five-member City Council, for a term of four years each. These two seats are currently held by incumbents Vice Mayor Jeff Starsky and Councilmember Ernie Sheldon. The remaining seats are occupied by Mayor Steve Miklos and Councilmembers Kerri Howell and Andy Morin.
 
The filing period for Folsom residents interested in running in the 2016 Folsom City Council election will be open Monday, July 18 and will continue through Friday, August 12. Only resident registered voters of the City of Folsom are eligible to run for the Folsom City Council.
 
Individuals interested in running for City Council can obtain official nomination papers and a candidate handbook in the City Clerk's Office at Folsom City Hall, located at 50 Natoma Street in Folsom. ESL Conversation Club at the Folsom Public Library
The Folsom Public Library Conversation Club is a fun, relaxed place for adults learning English to practice talking with native speakers.  Join us to improve your English, learn about American culture, and meet new friends. Drop in for a chat! No registration is required and all levels are welcome. The ESL Conversation Club meets weekly in the Library Meeting Room on Wednesdays from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. and Thursdays from 10 to 11 a.m.

Food Truck Safari on Wednesday
A fleet of SactoMoFo food trucks rolls into town 5 to 8 p.m. on July 20 bringing delicious food and tasty treats. Enjoy live music by Ryder Green during the event. This month's lineup of food trucks includes: Buckhorn Grill, Cecil's Taste, Chando's Tacos, Flavor Face, Squeeze Inn, Hefty Gyros, Kado's Asian Grill, Krush Burger, Cowtown Creamery, and The Pink Ice Cream Cart. The Folsom Zoo Sanctuary is located at 403 Stafford Street. This event continues year-round, rain or shine, on the third Wednesday of each month.
Summer Concert in the Park on Friday
The summer concert series continues this Friday, 7 to 9 p.m. at City Lions Park, featuring Legal Addiction, a classic rock band. The free concerts are presented by Folsom Parks & Recreation with the generous sponsorship of Folsom Rotary Clubs and Guild Mortgage Company. Bring a picnic or purchase food and beverages on site. Animal Olympics Puppet Show on Wednesday
The Folsom Public Library will host the Animal Olympics Puppet Show with Tony Borders this Wednesday from 2 to 2:45 p.m. The fun program will include puppets, ventriloquism and magic. The program will be held at the Folsom Community Center, adjacent to the Library, at 52 Natoma Street.
'Coloring for Adults' Saturday
According to Amazon, half of all top-selling books are coloring books for adults. Join calligrapher and artist Phawnda Moore to learn more about the coloring trend, tools, and techniques. Try out different tools in a hands-on, guided lab before you invest in supplies. Phawnda will also demonstrate a few easy art techniques, and share professional tips about organization in a fun-filled, informative class. The session will be held at the Folsom Public Library on Saturday, July 23 from 9:30 a.m. to noon. Registration is required. Call 916-357-7357 to register or for more information.
Registration is Open for Wacky Dash
End your summer on a wild and crazy note with this great family fun event on Saturday, August 6, starting at 8 a.m. in Rodeo Park. The Wacky Dash is a 2-mile obstacle course challenge featuring mud pits, a hay tunnel, balance beams, giant inflatables, water slides, a foam tunnel, pyramid climb, and lots of other fun surprises. Tackle the course as an individual or form a team with your family and friends. Zany and colorful attire is encouraged to add to the fun.
