Welcome

Welcome to the July 2016 Edition of The Real Times

Well, it's officially summer. The kids are out of school and so many people are away that not much gets done in the business world. So with the heat and thoughts of your upcoming vacation, I know that we have to have really interesting content to get your attention.

I am excited to introduce Alan Bernstein as our Customer Service Coordinator. Alan is responsible for customer interface, scheduling and coordinating all the details necessary to make your service delivery experience smooth and timely. Alan comes to Real Time with many years of management and industry experience that he can draw on for your benefit. You can reach Alan at [email protected], or 201-512-1777, when you need to schedule service or have a question or concern.

We have one thing this month that is time sensitive. The free upgrade to Windows 10 will expire on July 29th. If you are going to move to WIN 10 eventually, there's still time to do it while it's free. Our CTO, Mike Van Pelt, has put together a short description of WIN 10. A word of caution though, check with Real Time service before you accept the upgrade so that a Real Time service tech can be scheduled to make sure that your current desktop or laptop and applications are compatible with the new OS. Click here for Mike's article.

If you are traveling for business or pleasure, be sure to read this month's article on Public Wi-Fi considerations. It will be worth your time.

That's all for now. Look for us again in September. Have a fun and safe summer!

Quote of the Month

If you had to identify, in one word, the reason why the human race has not achieved, and never will achieve, its full potential, that word would be 'meetings.'

Now that summer is here, it's not just families that will be filling airports and hotels. While other people may be vacationing, business travelers will continue to work their way around the country and the world. According to the quarterly GBTA Sentiment Business Traveler Index, these working travelers face challenges in staying productive on the go — and mobile connectivity is a large factor in the success of a business trip. Although often overlooked, staying secure on public Wi-Fi should also be an important part of business travel.

Wi-Fi All the Time

Because most business is now conducted online — from holding meetings to submitting expenses — perhaps it's not surprising that business travelers demand Wi-Fi. In fact, the Global Business Traveler Association's October 2015 report says 83% of business travelers want Wi-Fi wherever they go. And 76% are more likely to book a hotel if it offers free Wi-Fi.

6 reasons printing is cool (again)

Though the world has become increasingly digital, print remains an important and critical player in the business world. From more impactful marketing to creating a more professional, credible presence in the marketplace, print matters. And matters plenty.

So don't jettison your office printer or vanquish print marketing from your business plan just yet. Print is indeed alive, well, and valuable in today's digital age and harnessing its evolving power can deliver new-found results. Here are six reasons companies still turn to print to make a personal connection in a digital world.

1. Print remains the standard
Despite profound digital advancements, printed materials such as contracts, government forms, and hard-copy reports still remain the accepted and unavoidable norm in today's society.

2. Print resonates with the brain
A recent neuroscience study found that printed material generates more emotional connections and leaves a longer-lasting imprint on the mind than digital information,1 a nod to print's enduring ability to engage customers and drive branding.

Business Continuity Tip
Summer Temperatures Are Here

Record high temperatures, some rising up into sizzling triple digits, have arrived in much of the country, prompting warnings and reminders on how to stay safe.

While we all understand the importance of staying cool and hydrated, here are a few other tips to make sure everyone stays safe throughout the warmer months ahead.
  • Check on family, friends and elderly neighbors who do not have air conditioning, who spend much of their time alone or who are more likely to be affected by the heat.
  • Know the signs of heat exhaustion: cool, moist, pale or flushed skin. Heavy sweating, headache and nausea.
  • Check on animals frequently. Make sure they have plenty of shade and cool water and consider moving them inside.
  • Call 911 immediately if someone exhibits signs of heat stroke, including hot, red skin, which may be dry or moist; changes in consciousness; vomiting and high body temperature.
For more information, review these tips from the American Red Cross.
