Dance Like Your Life Depends on It - Because it Might
One of my greatest fears is contracting
Alzheimer's disease or some other form of dementia. As far as I know, I have no particular risk factors to warrant being any more afraid of this disease than high blood pressure or cancer, yet the thought of slowly losing my ability to do my work, to enjoy my family, in the end, the complete loss of self, is absolutely terrifying to me. And I suspect that many of you reading this can relate to those fears. That's why I'm urging all of you to dance - and maybe save our lives in the process.

Happy Independence Day
Every October 31, while many in the U.S. are celebrating Halloween, I'm celebrating my personal Independence Day. On that day, I turned in my badge and keys and left my corporate training job to start Learningtogo, 11 years ago. I didn't know where my first clients would come from but somehow I had the confidence to go out on my own and I've never regretted it, not even for a minute. As my business grew, I kept learning and I'm still learning.

Why Your Brain Needs a Vacation
If you are based in the U.S. there is a good chance that you have not taken all of your available vacation days and are pushing yourself - and your brain - way too hard. I wrote about
why your brain needs a vacation recently and this infographic really sums up the facts in an appealing, colorful design. My only complaint is that the list of references at the bottom of the document aren't clickable. It would be so nice if we could jump right to the research instead of typing in these long URLs. But the sources are very solid and shed additional light on the numbers in the infographic.
My post on Infographics is trending on the ATD global site
Many of my posts in my blog are shared on the Association for Training and Development (ATD) Science of Learning blog. My post on
Using Infographics to Enhance Learning is trending as the one of the most read posts, even though it appeared several months ago. Thanks for helping me draw attention to this under-used training tool.

Thanks to recent advances in neuroscience, learning and talent development professionals now have an opportunity to alter their approaches to change management, leadership development, training, and instructional design.
Learn how the brain receives, encodes, and retrieves information to construct knowledge, and use these insights to improve your learning programs.

In order to build a smarter organization you need to start with smarter brains. The pace of change today demands that your team become nimble, ready to respond to new threats and capitalize on new opportunities with utmost speed and mental agility. However, the human brain evolved over centuries to keep us alive, so it is still responding to our current work environment as though we are hunting for food - and trying to avoid being hunted - on a daily basis. Within this framework we can train the brain to learn new skills, process information in new ways and develop a mindset that is open to new possibilities. We have only recently begun to understand the inner workings of the brain, thanks to neuroscience. Sadly, most of what is written on the subject is either too theoretical to be practical or so over-hyped as to be meaningless.
In this workshop, you will learn how to leverage the survival imperative to boost employee engagement, enhance performance and accelerate learning by speaking to the brain in its own language. You will come away with specific actions you can take right away to make your organization "smarter" - in ways that will get you ready for the challenges ahead. The tools and templates provided in the workshop will give you a head start to mapping out the transformation of your team into a smarter, continuously learning organization, one brain at a time.
