4th Annual Dog Days of Summer Cruise to Benefit Anne Arundel County SPCA

Harbor Queen goes to the dogs! Bring your dog for a cruise of Annapolis on Harbor Queen to benefit the SPCA of Anne Arundel County. The 4th Annual Dog Days of Summer Cruise is coming up on Thursday, July 21. Local pet friendly business Cruises on the Bay™ by Watermark® teamed up with the AACSPCA to plan a fun evening fundraiser on the water for dogs and their humans. Now in its fourth year, dozens of dogs have enjoyed this special evening on the water with their human companions. The Dog Days of Summer Cruise is open to the public.

This won't be the first time Harbor Queen goes to the dogs; the vessel is pet-friendly every day and dogs always cruise free. As featured in National Geographic's The Dog Lover's Guide to Travel, Harbor Queen is an Annapolis icon; she offers an open air lower deck and fully open top deck so pups can enjoy the wind blowing through their hair. During the special Dog Days cruise, hot dogs can cool off in baby pools on the top deck, and if they're lucky, SPCA volunteers will toss in actual hot dogs for them to bob for. Human guests will enjoy food from Graul's Market, music, a silent auction and a full cash bar. Special refreshments will be served for Fido. The party starts dockside at  6:00 p.m. and Queen will depart at  6:30 p.m. for a one-hour cruise around the Annapolis Harbor and Severn River.

"In a pet friendly town like Annapolis, restaurants have dog menus and stores set out water bowls on the sidewalks. We play our part by taking dogs out for a cruise!," says Debbie Gosselin, President of Watermark. "Now in its fourth year, this Dog Days of Summer Cruise is a fun tradition for us and we're happy to support the mission of the SPCA of Anne Arundel County by helping them raise funds. The event draws lots of attention as dozens of dogs and their owners make their way around City Dock onto Harbor Queen. It's a fun night for the dogs - and people - of Annapolis."

The SPCA receives no funding from city, county, state, or federal government. The organization is supported by private donations and fundraisers like this. Administrative Coordinator for the AACSPCA says Kristen Rygg, "The SPCA of Anne Arundel County is excited to partner with Watermark for this crusie aboard the Harbor Queen! What better way to capture Annapolis' pet friendly spirit than taking our dogs out on the water?"

Tickets for the cruise are $30/Adults, $15/Children 3-11, Free 2 & Under. Fifty percent of ticket proceeds will be donated to the AACSPCA. Friendly on-leash dogs are welcome. Dogs cruise free! Advanced reservations are recommended. Purchase tickets online at CruisesOnTheBay.com. The Dog Days of Summer Cruise is  Thursday, July 21 from  6:00 -7:30 p.m. and departs from Annapolis City Dock. Guests will check-in at Watermark's ticket booth under the red umbrella.

Ballet Theatre of Maryland, Maryland's premier professional ballet company, is excited to reveal an exquisite array of performances for its upcoming 2016-2017 Season.

I am incredibly excited to unveil Ballet Theatre of Maryland's (BTM's) 2016-2017 Season and invite you to share in an amazing journey as we step together through the pages of magic, intrigue, power, passion, drama, humor and adventure at our home theater at Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts in Annapolis.

Our journey begins on October 21, 21, and 23, 2016, with America's first and most beloved original mysterious, ghost story:  The Legend of Sleepy Hollow.  This masterful retelling of Washington Irving's masterpiece will meet your every expectation.  Everyone loves a ghostly, spooky tale about things that go bump in the night-especially when the tale is full of good humor and beloved characters.  The lanky, comedic school teacher, Ichabod Crane, pits himself against the athletic "jock", Brom Bones as they vie for the attention of the lovely, mysterious, wealthy Katrina Van Tassel.  And of course the spooky specter at the bottom of all the mysterious happenings is the Headless Horseman himself who will make a guest appearance onstage at Maryland Hall.

Next, I invite you to ride the Holiday Express to the most famous destination of all time- The Nutcracker, December 10, 11, 17, and 18. 2016.   Battle the Rat Queen and her minions and help Clara rescue her beloved Nutcracker as you share in her magical adventures and the spirit of tradition with your loved ones.  Travel once more through the realm of the Snow Queen to the Kingdom of Sweets with Clara and her Prince to the place where dreams come true and Holiday spirit abounds.  Look for some new sets pieces in our annual production at Maryland Hall.

On February 19, 20, and 21, 2017, our journey takes us to under the sea for the world premiere of BTM's The Little Mermaid at Maryland Hall, based upon the 1837 fairytale by Hans Christian Anderson.  A mischievous young mermaid takes us on the adventure of a lifetime when she willingly gives up her freedom of life in the sea to become human, gain an immortal soul, and win the heart of a handsome young Prince.  But it will take all of her courage, selflessness, and determination to make her dreams come true by defeating a sneaky sea witch, her devious sea wraith companion, while saving two kingdoms in the process.  Together, we will dive into a world of drama, magic, intrigue, music and adventure as we explore life under the sea and on land through the powerful language of dance.

Of course, our journey wouldn't be complete at Maryland Hall without our April 24, 25, and 26, 2017 performances of Innovations 2016-2017 where BTM will captivate you with innovative pieces that will transport you from the Classical to the Dramatic to the Contemporary, exploring emotions and themes relevant to all of us.  Journey with BTM's dynamic, versatile dancers to explore the depth and power of the mesmerizing language of classical dance in all its forms with new and returning choreographic and musical works.  For information about BTM, go online at www.balletmaryland.org.  Or call:  410-263-8289.  For tickets:  Go online at   www.marylandhall.org. or call:  410-280-5640.

If you are looking for even more places to journey with us, you can catch The Nutcracker before anyone else at the Bowie Center for the Performing Arts (BCPA), Thanksgiving Weekend, November 26 and 27, 2016, or you can visit Camelot with us at the BCPA on March 19, 2017, when BTM presents Dianna Cuatto's award winning Excalibur:  The Sword in the Stone.  And as a subscriber, you can add these destinations on as a bonus. For information or tickets, go online at www.balletmaryland.org.  Or Call:  410-263-8289.

If you missed The Sleeping Beauty last season, you can catch it again on Saturday, November 5, 2016, when BTM travels to the Convention Center in Ocean City sponsored by the Worcester County Public Library. For information, go online at www.balletmaryland.org.  Or Call:  410-263-8289.

Or you can travel with BTM to make history at the Lyric in Baltimore in our first season as a Resident Company.  The Nutcracker is our first destination with two performances on Saturday, December 3, 2016 and two on Sunday, December 4, 2016.  To match the grandeur of the Lyric, Our Nutcracker will be dressed with all new sets, some new, additional choreography, plus live music with the Concert Artists of Baltimore and some special events to be announced.  And on April 1, 2017, you can journey with us back in time once more to Camelot when BTM presents Excalibur:  The Sword in the Stone to Maggie Sansone's powerful score and played live by her and her ensemble of musicians including.  This ballet was voted one of the 10 "must see events" by Metro Theatre Guide in 2015.  For information, go online at www.balletmaryland.org.  Or Call:  410-263-2829.  For tickets, go online at www.thelyricoperahouse.com.  Or cal::410-900-1150.

If that isn't enough, you can choose to take advantage of our free events with BTM's Maryland Hall performances including: a Halloween Spooktacular party with the Legend of Sleepy Hollow in October, the ever popular Sugar Plum Parties at The Nutcracker, the Under the Sea Festival Party in conjunction with The Little Mermaid, or the Season Grande Finale Party with our April performance of Innovations-all on Sundays at Maryland Hall.

As you can see, you will want to journey with the Ballet Theatre of Maryland, Maryland's premier professional ballet company, through an adventurous 2016-2017 Season where the powerful language of dance will transport you to the most magical, mysterious, innovative destinations you can possibly imagine.

BWI Thurgood Marshall Airport Announces Art Competition for Regional Artists
Selected Images to be Reproduced and Displayed Within New D/E Connector

Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport has created a new art competition to showcase the talent and creativity of regional artists.

Artists aged 18 and older that reside in Maryland or the District of Columbia are invited to submit digital images of their original artwork.  Selected images will be reproduced and printed on large-scale fabric panels.   The panels will be displayed in a new BWI Marshall Airport art exhibition space.  As part of the large D/E Connector capital improvement program, BWI Marshall is establishing a new art gallery.  The selected images will be presented within a 125-foot linear section of the D/E Connector in one of four separate exhibitions.  Each exhibit will be in place for six months.

"We are committed to excellent customer service and to creating positive travel experiences for our customers," said Ricky Smith, Chief Executive Officer for BWI Marshall Airport.  "This new art gallery will feature quality images from artists throughout the region."

BWI Marshall Airport recognizes the valuable role that art and architectural enhancements play in the airport experience.  The airport incorporates a number of permanent and rotating exhibitions.  High-quality sculptures, art glass installations, paintings, photographs, and other enhancements are featured throughout BWI Marshall facilities.

A five-member jury panel will select 28 total images from the entries to be displayed at BWI Marshall.  Maryland First Lady Yumi Hogan is the chairperson of the BWI Marshall Airport art competition jury.  The other panel members are: Jinchul Kim, Associate Professor of Art, Salisbury University; Rex Stevens, Chair, Drawing and General Fine Arts Department, Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA); Tony Shore, Chair, Painting Department, MICA; and Zoe Charlton, Art Department Chair, American University.

"It's an honor to be chosen to serve on the jury panel for this important art competition," said First Lady Hogan, an accomplished artist and adjunct professor at MICA.  "The success of BWI Marshall Airport is Maryland's success, and it is my hope that many talented artists take this opportunity to enhance our thriving airport through their works, and in turn, use their art to being together countless cultures and communities."

The jurors will consider any two-dimensional work of art, in reproducible format.  Specific submission guidelines are available on the BWI Marshall Airport website-  www.BWIairport.com .  Entries must be submitted by July 29, 2016.
