CEPI has released the inaugural report of its new method of calculating graduation rates for public universities and community colleges. Unlike IPEDS, part-time and transfer students are included. 67% of students at public universities graduate within six years of enrolling.
U.S. Department of Education (July 2016)
The U.S. Department of Education found that from 1989 to 2013, Michigan's state & local spending on all higher education fell by 26%, in comparison with a rise of 47% in corrections spending. Higher education spending per student fell by 41% while corrections spending per capita grew by 60% in the same time period.
Demos (July 2016)
This think tank calculated the estimated gap between what can be earned working part-time (10 hours/week, per the Lumina Foundation) for minimum wage and what a low-income student would still have to pay after all financial aid. Michigan ranks as having the 5
th biggest affordability gap for students at community colleges and the 20
th biggest affordability gap for students at public universities. The report concludes that students cannot work their way through college in any state.
