DNR Buffer Map
The DNR has published a map on public waters and ditches in Minnesota that must provide buffers to filter out phosphorus, nitrates and sediment.  The new buffer provisions implemented in the 2015 legislative session and clarified during the 2016 session regulate where a buffer must be placed as well as the size of the buffer.

The deadlines for implementation are:
  • November 1, 2017: 50-foot average width, 30-foot minimum width, buffers must be in place on lands adjacent to public waters and identified and mapped on the buffer map by the DNR.
  • November 1, 2018: 15.5-foot minimum width buffer must be in place on lands adjacent to public ditches as identified and mapped on the buffer map by the DNR.
The map will help guide the implementation of Minnesota's buffer law for landowners with the help of the Board of Water and Soil Resources (BWSR), Soil and Water Conservation Districts (SWCDs), Drainage Authorities, and other local governments.  The following link directs interested parties to the buffer map and provides FAQs on common buffer questions, landowner questions, and map criteria -  Buffer Map.

Moving Toward Equity: Implicit Bias on the Job Site
Saint Paul College invites AGC of Minnesota members to participate in a free, two-hour workshop on implicit bias, intended specifically for people who work directly with underrepresented populations. Unlike a traditional diversity training, which focuses on differences and shaming, this training invites participants to explore the concept of unconscious bias, which is our human tendency to seek out information that confirms our preexisting beliefs or assumptions. Find out why implicit bias is universal. The workshop will be held on Tuesday, August 2, in the staff dining room of Saint Paul College and is limited to 15 people. RSVP: sarah.lechowich@saintpaul.edu; AGC contact: Merry Beckmann at mbeckmann@agcmn.org.
