CAN YOU BELIEVE IT'S THAT TIME AGAIN??

Wichita Public Schools online enrollment begins July 11
In-Person enrollment is August 8 - 10 - Schools have consistent enrollment times
Online enrollment for returning WPS parents with an active ParentVUE account will begin Monday, July 11. Online enrollment as a convenient option for returning students to complete standard enrollment forms, see class schedules, approve policies, complete waivers and pay for enrollment fees and school meals online from a computer, tablet or smart phone.  Parents are encouraged to use this service and pay fees online in order to streamline the enrollment process. ParentVUE, https://parentvue.usd259.net, will be available on July 11.
New parents or parents who do not have a ParentVUE account are encouraged to set up an account at their child's school during in-person enrollment August 8 - 10. All schools will have computers and assistance available during in-person enrollment for parents to access or set up their ParentVUE account. Parents can also go to www.usd259.org/enroll to print off and complete common enrollment forms before they go to their child's school to enroll during in-person enrollment.



 
The City of Wichita has developed an action plan which identifies the 2016-17 spending priorities for federal funds received for the benefit of low and moderate income persons. A copy of the plan is available for viewing here: Community Investments Program Year Plans.  A substantial amendment to the Third Program Year Action Plan has been proposed to allocate additional funds, and the public is encouraged to review and comment on the proposed amendment.   • If approved, the amendment will provide Community Development Block Grant funding to assist with the interior planning and rehabilitation of the historic Dunbar Theatre located at 1007 N. Cleveland.
Comments can be submitted to Lesa Lank at the Housing and Community Services Department, 332 N. Riverview, Wichita KS, 67203, or by email to [email protected]. Written comments will be accepted through July 22, 2016.

Mayor Jeff Longwell recently announced that Wichita has been selected as 1 of 12 new cities to participate in  Bloomberg Philanthropies' What Work Cities initiative - one of the largest-ever philanthropic efforts to enhance the use of data and evidence in the public sector.
"Wichita is making leaps and bounds in terms of our efforts to utilize data to actively improve the lives of our citizens and best position ourselves for future growth," Longwell said. "This will help us streamline our efforts to engage citizens and research to identify what the next big opportunities are for Wichita."
Launched in April 2015, the initiative is now providing support to 39 cities in 25 states and will work with up to 100

Home Improvement program has funding available for income qualified homeow ners
  
  
The Housing and Community Services Department's Home Improvement Program now has funding available for interest-free, forgivable deferred payment loans of up to $5,000 for income-qualified (60% of median) owner-occupant homeowners.  Loans are provided for emergency needs, such as furnaces, water heaters, sewer lines, water lines, electrical system repairs and plumbing repairs.  Loans are also provided for minor home repair needs for senior citizens, age 62 and older. 

Property taxes must be current

Riverlawn Summer Block Party

 
Who: Everyone is invited
What: A party featuring bounce houses, a dunk tank, yard games, FREE food, and a movie under the stars. Please bring your own lawn chairs. The movie we'll be watching will be Inside Out. This is a free event. The food will be burgers, hot dogs, chips, soda, and water.

  Rules and Guidance for
 Safely Sharing Wichita Streets
With the bicyclists out and about this summer, it's a good idea to know the proper way to pass a cyclist if you are in a car, and what all the street markings indicate. If you are a bicyclist, it's a good idea to know proper traffic etiquette, and the rules that apply to all.  To see a well diagramed brochure that highlights tips and rules for using and sharing city streets, click here.  And when in doubt, err on the side of caution!

This program provides assistance to homeowners to update and preserve their property with a fresh coat of paint. The paint is free and homeowners can choose the color of paint from a wide selection. The paint is available between April 1 and September 15. To qualify for the free paint:
  1. The house must be located within the City of Wichita.
  2. Eligible household income must not exceed eighty percent (80%) of median income.  2016 Federal Income Limits 
  3. The house must be owner-occupied, and real estate taxes must be paid current.
  4. The owner must apply the paint to the structure within six months of receiving it.
  5. Senior citizens, 62 years of age or older, may qualify for labor grants, provided they are owner-occupants and provided funding is available.
