However, even with all the 'modeling' that takes place with every great golfer, when you look at their swings from a distance, you can still tell whose swing it is. It's easy to spot the difference between a Rory McIlroy and a Tiger Woods. It's easy to spot the difference between Greg Norman and Nick Faldo. It's easy to spot the difference between Sam Snead and Ben Hogan.
In other words, even though every great pro has copied parts of other golfer's swings, they continue to have swings that are unique to them... you can tell it's their swing and it's unmistakable. And, t
he same is true with amateur golfers' swings.
You can tell your regular playing partners' swings from a distance off.
So what's the difference between a pro and an amateur golfer's swing?
A pro has a very clear idea in their head as to how they want to swing. Whereas, the regular amateur, rarely has a clear idea. Not only that, the average amateur remains uncommitted to their swing. They try one thing after another in their attempt to find the 'secret'.
A pro never does that. They have their basic swing and they make occasional 'small' changes to it.
The point is... p
ros know exactly what they're trying to do at each stage of their swing. And, even if they don't do what they want (when you look on video in slow motion), they have a clear image in their mind and a clear feeling n their body as to what the want to do.
Amateurs don't typically have this same understanding and clarity in their understanding and/or feel for their ideal swing.
So how can you find your perfect golf swing?
When you watch professional golfers' swings, most people have a couple of favorite swings that stand out to them. There will be things about their swings that you like. They might not even be the best golfers in the world.
For example, you may like Angel Cabrera's golf swing.
You may like Zach Johnson's golf swing.
You may like Dustin Johnson's golf swing.
You may even like Jim Furyk's golf swing (arghhh!)
Everyone will have different likes and dislikes when it comes to looking at golf swings.
Choose 3 golfer's swings you like the look of.
Once you've done this, then try and narrow it down to one golfer's swing that you like and you think would be a good match for you.
- Are you tall and wiry? If so, check out a swing like Tim Herron.
- Are you short and stocky? If you are, then consider a swing like Dustin Johnson.
- Are you tall and well built? If you are then consider a swing like Rory McIlroy.
In other words, the very first thing you'll want to do to build the perfect golf swing for you, is to find someone with a swing you like that has similar physique to you.
Once you've done that, then you you'll need to study their swing at each stage, so you have a very clear idea on what they do.
This is going to be your 'blueprint' for your perfect swing.
However, please understand something... great golfers have copied other golfers' swings...BUT they never look exactly the same. Everyone is different!
So, even when you are copying one of the great golfer's swing that you feel is as close a match to your physique or body type as possible, it doesn't mean you'll ultimately swing exactly like them.
What's most important about the 'modeling' process is that you have a very clear idea in your mind as to how you are going to swing.
This is critical!
Moreover, as important to the success of the modeling process, after you have a very clear idea in your mind about how you want to swing, then
you should not waiver!
Stay committed to the swing - only making 'small' and 'occasional' adjustments when things aren't working. Y
ou need to program your mind and body to groove the perfect golf swing for you.
Finally, it is important to understand that your ability to successfully 'model' your swing is totally dependent upon your 'current' body structure...
your current combined levels of 'physical' conditioning that includes your body posture, balance, flexibility, strength, stability and functional mobility.
And, when your body structure changes, what now becomes your optimal swing will change as well... because of the law of'structure' governs 'function'.
This is important to understand in the process of modeling what is right for you now... and what modeling changes you'll want to make in the future as your golf-specific fitness training program re-shapes your body and enhances your physical structure into a body shape that can perform a full golf swing most safely and most effectively according to your ideal scene performance goals.
How's that for taking ownership for your body and your swing!
