Momentum is building! Constructions begins in just a week on our historic Bell Tower. I encourage you to read below to learn about all the latest project information and how you can make a difference

Rev.  Aimée

On Sunday, capital campaign co-chair Ed Birch, left, joined Rev. Aimée and the congregation in prayer for our Bell Tower. It will be deconstructed beginning May 2.

Bell Tower Construction Kick-Off, Prayer Service: Moving Celebration
By Kathie Deviny
Parishioners Jim and Sally Subject gather to hear Rev. Aimee bless the work of the Sanctuary Preservation and Readiness Project and capital campaign.

Their sound has gone out into all lands, and their message to
    the ends of the world.
O soul! I ring to warn thee time is fleeting.
I pray thee save thyself by pardon seeking.

Children and adults alike lined up to ring the bell for the last time in its historic tower.
It's doubtful that anyone attending yesterday's Bell Tower Construction Kickoff Celebration & Prayer Service knew the origin of the words of this canticle as they stood facing our iconic tower. As Rev. Aimée explained, these words are inscribed on All Saints' historic, 616-pound bell, donated in 1901 by the Humphrey family, one of the founders of our parish. {And who were the Humphreys, and the Daultons, our Church's other founders? We'll learn more in the upcoming weeks - keep an eye out for future editions of this special Bell Tower e-newsletter}.

We do know that All Saints' first vicar, the Rev. Melville Moore, pleaded with the new congregation for a bell.  "There is one article which I very greatly desire, and which I hope will be given as a memorial, and this is a good bell, as large as the belfry will hold. Next to [having] an Altar," he wrote, "I know of no more beautiful and appropriate memorial than a bell, which sounds forth its sweet, persuasive tone to remind all who hear of God's love, of man's need, and of that hope of the future life where harmony will be perfect and unending."

And we do know that the Humphreys dedicated the bell to the memory of their two daughters; we will provide more about this All Saints "back story" in the future.

Following the beautiful service yesterday, you might have assumed that mostly children would want to ring the bell for the final time in its current tower, but in fact the adults had to be restrained from crowding into line! A good guess is that the bell was rung at least 100 times between 9 a.m. and noon! Fortunately our dear neighbors were warned in advance of our celebration.

On the patio, after the services, conversation was animated as excited hard-hatted children were everywhere. Everyone enjoyed the special cake, the ongoing ringing of the bell, the excitement of the upcoming Outreach golf tournament, and the mingling of the past, current and future of our parish.

Momentum Building: $8.36 million Raised for Sanctuary Work
Over the past two weeks we've received 9 gifts totaling $340,000. Click the link below to see the latest version of the Honor Roll of Donors:

Your Questions Answered
Several questions have arisen; maybe yours is listed below? If not, just reply to this email and send in your question. We welcome all questions and comments.

If the Bell Tower is being taken down and rebuilt, does that mean all the funds needed have been raised?
We still need many, many gifts to reach our goal. Nearly 100 members of the parish have given a gift (from campaign leaders, Vestry, clergy, staff and early project supporters). But the success of the project means that we need 100 percent participation to ready the Sanctuary for its next 116 years.

How much has been raised; how much is left to raise?
To date, $8.36 million in gifts have been received (payments may be made over one to five years). We need roughly $10 million in gift commitments by late summer so the Vestry can authorize work on phase two: the main Sanctuary seismic strengthening and other elements. The campaign will continue until we reach our $11.6 million overall goal ($10.1 million for construction and $1.5 million for the endowment). More information is available at our project website.

With so many large gifts already made, how will my modest gift help?
Gifts of every size are vital in order for us to reach our $11.6 million goal. From a few hundred dollars per year and up, our goal is based on every member of the parish giving as much as you are able. We ask only that you "stretch" in your giving; note that you may spread your giving over one to five years.

How can I give to the project? Will someone call me or can I get a giving form from the Church Office?
Please call (805-969-4771) or email (kathleen@asbts.org) the Church Office and ask for a "Statement of Intent Form" for the capital campaign.

Campaign Gifts Matched 1 for 1: Donate Before July 31!
Exciting Campaign News: $500,000 Matching Fund Established
Five parish families have come forward to create a $500,000 matching fund that will match every dollar committed to the capital campaign before July 31, 2016.
Campaign co-chair Bitsy Bacon announces the matching fund during the 10 a.m. service on Sunday.

"We are so thankful for the generosity of so many in our parish," said Rev. Aimée. "That these five families want to share their abundance to help us ensure the future of our Sanctuary is truly a gift from God," she added. The five families have already given to the campaign and are increasing their earlier very generous gift commitments.

The new gift fund will be used to match one dollar for each dollar donated by any parishioner who gives to the "How Firm Our Foundation" capital campaign between April 15 and the end of July. Gifts do not need to be paid by July to be eligible to be matched. Gifts may actually be paid over one to five years.

"We are so pleased to be able to announce this effort," said Rev. Aimée. "The campaign is among the most important projects of our time and will touch so many generations of future worshippers," she noted.
