The BEST bike in the world is the one you ride.
Let's get out and RIDE!
Busy Days Ahead - July 16 through July 18
I'll be heading to Paris tomorrow to ride in the Tour de Paris on Saturday. Sunday, you will find me at the Back the Blue Ride, hosted by Pedal for PTSD. Monday, I am heading to Wichita Falls for a Train Smart/Ride Smart Clinic at the Endurance House. Details for these activities and more can be found below. Ride on!
Bon'jour Y'all

They're getting excited in Paris because more than 1,000 cyclists will be participating in their annual bike ride. Tour volunteers and staff have been working hard preparing the route, recruiting and training the volunteers, getting all the food and supplies, planning with area law enforcement and medical personnel and stuffing the 1,000+ ride packets. Come join me for miles of wheel fun!
Profiles in Cycling
Meet Leigh Youngman

Leigh approached me many years ago about participating in the Hotter 'N Hell Hundred. Her goal was to ride the 50 mile route. After completing the 50 mile route in 8 1/2 hours, she set her sights on new goals. In the years that followed, Leigh completed the 62 mile and the 75 mile route at the HHH. Then she added the Bike MS ride and began completing both of those days before attempting the 100 mile route. She completed her first 100 mile ride at the HHH in 9 1/2 hours (total time). The following year, she missed the Hell's Gate Cutoff while assisting another rider. In 2015, Leigh completed the 100 mile route in 7 hours and 13 minutes. Congratulations Leigh! Well done!
Charity Ride for Dallas Police Department
Back the Blue on July 17

Pedal Against PTSD is hosting a bike ride on Sunday, July 18. The ride starts on the Ron Kirk Pedestrian Bridge (formerly the Continental Avenue Bridge) and finishes at Luck. The route is short and there is no cost to ride. Visit their Facebook page to get the details. I hope to see a lot of cyclists there showing their support.

HHH Clinic July 18
Wichita Falls - Endurance House

I'll be travelling to Wichita Falls to present a 2 hour clinic on getting ready for and participating in the HHH. If you are interested in joining us, you can get all the information for the site, including registration info, at the link below. Clinic participants receive a copy of our Train Smart program and our Ride Smart booklet

Ride with the fitness you have today

As the heat of the summer settles in, I see more and more people getting into trouble. Quite often it is due to someone "fighting" the wind, but MOST of the time it is because people don't control their pace/intensity. The "trick" to having a good ride is to ride with the fitness that you HAVE, not the fitness your WANT. Trying to keep up with other riders can destroy a good ride. So, if you have been struggling to finish, cramping or just running out of energy - try riding at a pace that allows you to talk. If you can't carry on a conversation, slow down. Finish feeling good, not wasted.
