Director Stager Addresses Woodward Chamber on SQ 779
Oklahoma Municipal League's Executive Director, Carolyn Stager, attended the Woodward Chamber Luncheon on Monday at the invitation of Woodward City Manager, Alan Riffel. Stager presented information on Funding the Gap:  Strong Cities: Strong State including information on SQ 779, the Boren One Percent (1%) state sales tax increase proposal and shared with the group that OML supports teachers and comprehensive tax reform; however, opposes this proposal due to the adverse impact it will have on cities and towns.

She asked the group to remember the uniqueness of how cities and towns in Oklahoma are funded in that we are the only state where cities and towns do not receive ad valorem (property tax) for general operations thus making our municipalities overly dependent on local voter approved sales tax to fund police, fire, roads, libraries, water and every other service citizens expect and enjoy from their municipality.

Also, on the program was Amber England with Stand for Children who spoke in favor of SQ 779
