Reinhardt's oldest living alumna celebrates 100th birthday

Reinhardt alumni are spread across the country but some remain right here in our back yard. Marjorie Humphrey Hubbard, Salutatorian of the Class of 1937, made her home in Woodstock with her late husband, Glenn, and daughter, Elaine.

Mrs. Hubbard, Reinhardt's oldest living alumna, celebrated her 100 th birthday July 13.
In the 1930s, there were not many job options for women. They could choose one of three things if they wanted to enter the workforce: teacher, nurse or secretary, Mrs. Hubbard recalled.

She chose to educate the young minds in her community

The Rev. Ted Goshorn to lead campus ministry at Reinhardt

Campus ministry is where he thought he would be one day and the Rev. Ted Goshorn is glad he found Reinhardt.

Goshorn began as Reinhardt's new campus minister July 11 and has big plans of building relationships and offering diverse ways for students, faculty and staff to engage their spirituality.

Service learning also is an aspect of his role that he hopes to use to bring people outside of their comfort zones and grow spiritually with more love and empathy.  "I think it's an essential component of what it means to be human, to give of ourselves to others, and the college years are an essential time to hone that skill, teach that skill and create that habit," he said. ... Etowah Valley MFA readings and special events prove to be a hit, only three remain

The Etowah Valley MFA summer readings are turning out to be a big hit with many in attendance at the first round of events. Two events remain this week on Friday and Saturday evenings.

The readings and special events began July 7 with a Q&A with Kathy Kincer of the "Melodically Challenged" Radio Show, and a reading by Raymond Atkins.  That was followed up with Donna Little, Adrian Blevins, Bill Walsh and George Singleton. Reinhardt voice students compete at national competition in Chicago

A Reinhardt rising junior took first place at nationals in Chicago while an up-and-coming dual enrolled student came in third in a different category.

Lake Mullenix project to bring walking trail, more beauty to campus

An addition to Waleska's University in a Park is taking shape and is expected to bring a comforting, fun place for people to enjoy.

The Lake Mullenix project officially got underway in June, with clearing beginning on June 14.

"An excavator, forestry mower, tree cutting team and a Bobcat were used to remove the very heavy brush, dead trees and debris from the edge of the lake and surrounding area," said Missy Dayoub, director of the Physical Plant. ...  Read More

 Wimpy repeats as diamond Sports Catcher of the Year

Randi Wimpy of Reinhardt has been named the National Fastpitch Coaches Association NAIA Diamond Sports Catcher of the Year for the second year in a row. With the honor, Wimpy becomes the first NAIA student-athlete to receive the award in back-to-back years. The announcement was made by the NFCA Tuesday afternoon in Louisville, Ky.

A Cartersville, Ga., native, Wimpy wrapped up her softball career in 2016 as a three-time NAIA First Team All-American and a two-time NFCA First Team All-American. In her final season on the diamond with the Lady Eagles, Wimpy was second on the RU squad in all three triple crown categories. She posted a .429 batting average with 10 home runs and 64 RBIs. She also led the squad with a .537 on-base percentage and in doubles with 21. Wimpy's 21 doubles were the 10th-most in the NAIA in 2016, with her 64 RBIs ranking her 11th. ...
