Sermon
"The Soul of a Child "

Scripture
Deuteronomy 6:4-9

This Sunday we'll be exploring the fact that the soul of a child is much more complex than meets the eye.  They understand more about God than we think.  Each of their young experiences is like Velcro.  They stick to their soul and are retained there for the rest of their lives.  The most significant learning that comes to them isn't in nature or on the soccer field.  It is from us, their parents. We are, according to research, the dominant teachers of our children until they read the age of 16 unless there are others who spend more time with them than we do.  I mean things like child care providers, or computers, or grandparents.  Then parental influence shifts. As they grow up, there is a delicate balance between their parents  or other care-givers and their friends. At around sixteen their friends have equal, and in some cases, greater influence than care-givers.  It means we have sixteen years to teach or influence our children.  So let's explore what is needed in those initial sixteen years, and then what needs to follow.  And, by the way, it's not just about them, our children.  It's about us and what we believe and how we put it into practice that will have life long implications on their lives, their understanding of faith and the their potential engagement at a church.

Pastor's Blog
Rev. Brad P. Beeman

Friends, It's with sadness that I announce that Laura Wall has given her notice.  She has struggled with this decision for months and finally made the decision to take an offer from Compass Health in Edmonds.  It is a full-time position with great benefits.  I can't even begin to share how much I'm going to miss having her office next door; her wisdom, grace and sense of humor immediately available.  But this is an opportunity for her, one she is trained, educated and gifted to do.  Her letter of resignation is below.  Please pray for her as she goes through this time of transition.   Very Sincerely, Pastor Brad.

Laura Wall
A Letter from Pastor Laura
This is to let my beloved community at Aldersga te know that I am resigning my position effective the end of July .

As many of you know I have faced some difficult decisions recently. I've had to admit that, as much as I would like to clone myself and continue to try to balance 5 legs on a 3 legged stool-it isn't sustainable. In trying to balance:

1) Raising a teen-aged son,
2) Ministry as a Pastor,
3) Working at Compass Health,
4) My private counseling practice, and
5) Developing the Connections Counseling organization,

None of these 5 areas have had as much of my time as they need. All are worthy endeavors but I can't continue to try to juggle them, hoping none of the balls will drop (to mix metaphors terribly). Something has to go.

Kid's Club Volunteers
Please CLICK HERE to sign up to host a Kid's Club this summer. It is easy and fun and a great way to serve the church. Kid's Club is a fellowship time for kids during the first worship service. There are typically between 4-15 kids present that range from 3 years old to tween age. Share a part of your story and your passions with the kids - they love getting to know members of their Aldersgate Family.  Play games or do an art project with them.  Talk with Jen Hoerber about ideas that could work or to find someone to host with you!
