Job Description: Controller
 
Description

Part / Full time position (minimum 32 hours a week).  Salary is based upon an hourly rate.  The Controller shall report to the ISCJ Treasurer and ISCJ President.  

Responsibilities

  • Lead the accounting office, follow up on all tasks, delegate where applicable
  • Coordinate for recording the ISCJ's revenues (hall rental and rental properties, etc.)
  • Prepare payment checks to vendors based on approved requests
  • Receive all documents, cash and checks and make data entries into proper fund accounting
  • Maintain fixed asset ledger in a timely manner.
  • Maintain recurring entries in QB for items such as deprecation, payroll, endowment, reserve, and other routine transactions in a timely manner.
  • Prepare reports for year-end audit in a timely manner.
  • Prepare and document write offs for accounts
  • Approve monthly bank reconciliations in a timely manner.
  • Maintain a list of the reports that need to be provided to various committees as approved by the President & Treasurer.  Ensure reports are distributed in a timely manner.
  • Ensure documentation of work procedures is performed and is readily available when needed.
  • Prepare monthly banks reconciliation
  • Maintain vendor file by creating, deleting or maintaining existing vendor information.
  • Monthly updating the ISCJ's financial records by the 10th workday of the month
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial statements
  • Monthly updating the ISCJ's membership lists
  • Liaise with committee Chairman/woman
  • Work with the ISCJ President, Treasurer and external auditors to represent the ISCJ before the IRS, if necessary
  • Liaise with internal and external auditors.  Provide support as requested in a timely manner.
  • Ascertains that all financial, accounting and monetary documents are complete and secure
  • Report to the ISCJ President and the Treasurer and in his/her absence to the Chairman or Secretary. Coordinate and work with ISCJ Administrator.
  • Perform other ISCJ duties as needed and requested by the President, within Accountant's scope
  • Provide support with internal and external auditors. 
  • Evaluate current processes and look for continuous improvement
  • Prepare monthly summary reports detailing activities, trends, financial disbursements and including analysis while maintaining accurate records

  • Strong leadership skills
  • Ability to multitask, be organized and ability to delegate
  • Identify improvements in the process and be able to execute changes
  • Must be able to follow through and complete tasks, balance and prioritize,
  • Be able to work under little supervision
  • Works with others in a team environment
  • Capable to receive and act upon constructive feedback and suggestions
  • Legally permitted to work in US - Proof Required (Green Card, U.S. Citizen)
  • Ability to read, write and orally communicate effectively in the English language
  • Advanced computer skills required including proficiency in typing, MS Office, Google Docs and the ability to create and maintain databases in Excel, Email, Internet
  • General understanding of basic accounting
  • Must be flexible and be able to work on weekends if needed
  • Critical thinking and problem solving skills
  • Must be skilled in using Microsoft Excel, Word, Google Docs and QuickBooks
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • CRM experience
  • Ability to research current tax laws for state/local for non profit
  • Friendly,  positive character, morals and manners. Energetic & likable with ability to lead, attract people and interact with different age groups and both genders in positive manner
