June 4 is TS Awareness Day in New Jersey

NJCTS received an official proclamation from Governor Chris Christie recognizing June 4th as Tourette Syndrome Awareness Day in New Jersey. Senator Christopher "Kip" Bateman (R-16) presented the proclamation to NJCTS Executive Director Faith Rice and staff on the steps of the Somerset County Courthouse. Senator Bateman is a friend to NJCTS who has supported us for many years and we thank him for his continued support as we expand research, education, and awareness for the TS community!

Families from all corners of New Jersey received proclamations from their towns to mark this important day. This is a great opportunity for kids to advocate and become part of the NJCTS effort to stamp out stigma and gain understanding and acceptance for all people living with Tourette Syndrome.

Family Retreat Weekend provides community and support

The 12th Annual NJCTS Family Retreat Weekend at YMCA Camp Bernie took place June 10-12, 2016. Families traveled from far and wide with many attending for the first time. These photos, taken by our wonderful volunteer photographer Allen Jones, show families bonding and sharing their stories and participating in camp activities, including swimming, basketball, wall climbing, archery, arts & crafts, and so much more. We hope you all enjoyed the Skype call with TS kids and families in Turkey through our Global GreaTS Connection! Thank you to all who attended, volunteered, and donated to this unforgettable weekend!

Please help ensure that this critical family support program continues. Join our Retreat Weekend Committee by contacting NJCTS Family Outreach and Volunteer Coordinator Barbara Chabner at [email protected] or by calling 908-575-7350.

Teens Tackle Tourette's

NJCTS Youth Advocate Mike Hayden inspired his high school English class to organize, promote, and host a TS awareness and fundraising event called "Teens Tackle Tourette's." They recently hosted an awareness walk on their high school campus which raised more than $1000 for NJCTS! For the past several months, NJCTS and Mike have educated his class about Tourette Syndrome and answered their questions about the misunderstood disorder. The T3 students are a passionate group and we are proud of all they have accomplished.
