Chamber members still have until Monday, July 11th   at 5 pm to provide input on the Pier Project before the Chamber's joint Downtown Waterfront & Pier Task Force meeting on July 13th. Taking the time to complete this short survey will help us better advocate on behalf of the business community.

TBX and the choices we face

The recent vote to support funding for the Tampa Bay Express (TBX) in the Hillsborough County MPO's Transportation Improvement Program illustrates the difficult choices we face to improve transportation in the Tampa Bay region. FDOT's plan to construct variable priced toll lanes on Interstate 275, I-4 and I-75 has sparked much public debate over the past year about the proper ways to invest in our region's transportation network for future economic value and quality of life.

Locally, the Tampa Bay Rays Major League Baseball team is in the midst of choosing its own fate - stay in St. Pete or Pinellas County, or jump across the Bay into Hillsborough County. Ultimately, they could even make the decision to leave the region altogether.

The  Pinellas Suncoast Transit Authority  is set to ditch a cab company as its paratransit service provider. Transdev, the owner of  Yellow Cab , currently transports riders eligible for door-to-door service on PSTA's Demand Response Transportation, or DART.

It's no mystery that  traffic in the Tampa Bay area is abysmal. The prospect of driving through parts of Pinellas County and most of Tampa elicit groans if it happens to fall during the maddening rush hour commute.

That's why when a $3.3 billion project was on the table promising to ease some of that congestion, business leaders flocked to support it.


Pinellas Commissioner John Morroni to undergo medical treatment

Pinellas County Commissioner  John Morroni  announced  Tuesday  he will be undergoing treatment for a rare blood disorder known as secondary myelodysplastic syndrome, or MDS . Morroni will be hospitalized for treatment at Moffitt Cancer Center, but will continue to receive briefings from the county administrator on a weekly basis.
