Dear Community,
Last week, the school district celebrated the culminating event of our 50th anniversary with the unveiling of a mural depicting the North Penn School District's history. The colorful, engaging art can be seen by visitors at the Educational Services Center, located at 401 E. Hancock Street in Lansdale, and is a beautiful representation of our school district's half-century of excellence. I hope you will find time to visit the mural over the next couple of months.
Summer is always a busy time in North Penn School District. We are cleaning schools, building student schedules, preparing the district calendar, holding teacher in-services, hiring staff, holding dozens of youth camps and much more. This year in particular we are also very busy as we begin renovations and construction at Montgomery Elementary School and repair the areas at North Penn High School damaged by fire this past spring.
And new this summer we are preparing thousands of Chromebook devices to distribute to sixth through ninth grade students and their teachers. We have come a long way in the last year in terms of working to provide one-to-one technology to our students and I could not be more excited and proud of this endeavor. In addition, technology staff is busy improving infrastructure to support the initiative.
I hope you are all enjoying your summer. I know I am. It is an exciting time in the North Penn School District.
Sincerely,
Curtis R. Dietrich, Ed.D.

NPSD Concludes 50th Anniversary Celebrations with a Birthday Party
The 2015-2016 school year marked the North Penn School District's 50th birthday, and we couldn't have had a better time celebrating.
On Friday, July 1st, the official 50th Anniversary date of North Penn, the district celebrated by hosting a birthday party at the Educational Services Center. Nearly 50 North Penn staff, retirees and community members joined together for the unveiling of a timeline mural in the entrance of the building, the showing of a
culminating video of students throughout the district discussing why they love North Penn and of course, to enjoy some birthday cake! The atrium of the ESC was adorned with festive decorations and a display of commemorative items and memorabilia from each of our 18 schools. It was an enjoyable afternoon for all whom attended.
On behalf of the North Penn School District, we'd like to thank all of our students, staff, volunteers and community members for helping to make this year's 50th Anniversary celebration events so exciting and successful. We look forward to continuing traditions such as the Alumni Football Game, scheduled for Thursday, November 24th at 10:00 a.m., as well as our North Penn Knights of Honor Induction, scheduled for Wednesday, November 23rd at 6:00 p.m., for years to come.
Here's to the next 50 years!

NPSD Announces Launch of Mobile App
|
The North Penn School District is proud to announce the launch of our new mobile application for smart phones and handheld devices.
Following over a year of planning, the NPSD Mobile App is officially live and available to students, staff, families and community members. The app is compatible with Apple and Android devices and can be downloaded for free by searching "North Penn School District" in your device's application store.
The objective of the NPSD Mobile App is to serve as a one-stop resource for families of students in the district. The app provides instant, mobile access to the Home Access Center, district calendar, breakfast and lunch menus, the Community Bulletin Board, MyPayments+ school lunch account site, parent and student resources, daily notifications, student information including attendance, contact information to each of our 18 schools and district office and much more.
Important news and top stories circulate throughout the app to keep students, staff, families and community members updated while highlighting all of the wonderful things going on throughout the North Penn School District.
An additional unique feature of the NPSD Mobile App is the Comment Line - a section which allows users to provide feedback to the district in real time. While this section includes traditional categories like "Kudos" and "Suggestions," a unique section for "Facilities" has also been included. This feature is designed to let the school district know if there is a facility issue at one of our buildings, as the Comment Line allows users to include GPS location as well as a photo that can be taken at the time of submission or loaded from camera roll.
At this time, the section of the Comment Line which the district asks users to focus on is the category of "App Feedback." As the launch of the NPSD Mobile App is in its initial stage, the district welcomes user suggestions and concerns. NPSD encourages students, staff, families and community members to utilize this section to offer feedback about their experience with the mobile app.
The North Penn School District is eager and excited to take this next step in the direction of an innovative, digital future. By providing a seamless and simple communication and resource center, the district hopes that the mobile app will strengthen the understanding and interface between school and families which is vital to the success of our students.

Free Meals Available to All Children in the North Penn Community this Summer
|
The United States Department of Agriculture's (USDA) Summer Food Service Program helps ensure that no child goes hungry when school is out. North Penn School District is partnering once again this year with Manna on Main Street, the North Penn United Way, HealthSpark Foundation and the Visiting Nurses Association Foundation of Greater North Penn to offer this program locally and help bridge the hunger gap that some children may experience during the summer months.
In the NPSD, 29 percent of students receive free and/or reduced price meals during the school year. To break that down even further, three of NPSD's elementary schools have greater than 50 percent of their population enrolled in the free and reduced lunch program. During the summer, these boys and girls - and all children - need continued access to affordable, nutritious meals. The Summer Food Service Program allows summer camps, park programs, daycares and other sites to offer combinations of free breakfasts, lunches and/or snacks between June 20 and August 19, 2016.
In addition to these locations, the NPSD mobile meal van will be on the go, delivering free, nutritious meals Monday through Friday to four high-need areas in the community including Hatfield Community Park, Knapp, Oak Park and York Avenue Elementary Schools. All children through age 18 can visit the trucks at these locations, no questions asked, and enjoy a free, healthy lunch to fuel their summer day. By bringing meals to children in their neighborhoods, the mobile meal van reduces food access barriers and helps ensure that children are receiving nutritious meals in the North Penn region.
Mobile Meal Vans can be found at the following locations from June 20 to August 19, Monday through Friday at specified times below:
Hatfield Community Park
2500 N. Chestnut St., Hatfield
11:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
Oak Park Elementary School
500 Squirrel Lane, Lansdale
11:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.
Knapp Elementary School
698 Knapp Road, Lansdale
12:30 p.m. to 1:00 p.m.
York Avenue Elementary School
700 York Avenue, Lansdale
1:15 p.m. to 1:45 p.m.

NPHS '16 Grad Prepares for International Summer Tour with National Youth Orchestra of USA
|
While many high school graduates choose to spend their final summer before college soaking up every last bit of their hometown possible, North Penn High School Class of 2016 graduate Neil Goh will be doing quite the opposite this summer.
For the second summer in a row, Neil will spend June and July training, traveling and performing with the National Youth Orchestra of the United States of America (NYO-USA) in Philadelphia, New York and throughout Europe.
"In my 10 years at North Penn High School, we have never had a student achieve this level of musical accomplishment. Needless to say, I'm incredibly proud of Neil," said NPHS Orchestra Director, Erica Milbourne.
The North Penn School District is extremely pleased to recognize Neil Goh for being selected to perform in the violin section as one of 109 musicians in the NYO-USA. This June and July, these remarkable teenagers will embark on a tour to some of the great music capitals of the world, serving as America's dynamic music ambassadors.

NPHS Nurse Publishes Motivational Book
|
The North Penn School District is proud to share that one of our own has officially been named a published author. Sally Kauffman, staff nurse at North Penn High School and long-time, beloved NPSD employee released her book, Wishing You Greatness, in May of 2016.
Wishing You Greatness presents a collection of positive quotes and ideas that offer inspiration and encouragement to ultimately find and connect with one's own greatness. Readers of all ages are advised to "read it all, pick it up every day or just choose one page."
Inspired by her grandson's positive outlook and resilience, Kauffman dedicates Wishing You Greatness to her grandchildren, stating that "it was after seeing all of you and your greatness...that the desire to share greatness with everyone became reality."
Whether readers need to be reminded of their greatness, grow in their greatness or move toward dreams and desires of greatness,
Wishing You Greatness offers 51 pages of wonderful, uplifting words to remind oneself each day the importance of positivity, confidence and perseverance.

NPSD Earns 1st Place KTO Innovation Incentive Award for Dream Growers Summer Success Camp
|
The future of the NPSD continues to grow brighter, thanks to the First Place Keystones to Opportunity (KTO) Innovation Incentive Award recently earned by Marisa Neeson, Preschool Outreach Coordinator at NPSD, for her efforts on behalf of the Dream Growers Summer Success Camp.
The Dream Growers Summer Success Camp is a two-week summer camp designed to support continued learning and promote kindergarten readiness with a focus on foundation skills such as oral language, phonemic awareness and school routine. This interactive and educational camp is held at Trinity Preschool and promotes collaboration between several of NPSD's diverse communities.
In 2013, NPSD partnered with Trinity Lutheran Preschool to develop the Dream Growers Summer Camp. Marisa Neeson and Lisa Corr, Director for Early Learning at Trinity, collaborated with early learning partners and kindergarten teachers and reviewed district data to identify several areas of need. Data was used to create the curriculum and target specific areas on which to focus. The camp is a collaboration amongst the diverse communities of the North Penn area that provides preschool experiences for students who may not otherwise have that opportunity. Now in its third year, the goal of the Dream Growers is to best prepare incoming students for success in kindergarten by aligning with the NPSD Comprehensive Literacy Plan.
