Cumberland Council to revitalise local parks
Parks and local places will receive major upgrades and improved facilities in Cumberland
 Council's Draft Operational Plan for 2016/17.
The plan consolidates the existing plans of the former Auburn, Holroyd and Parramatta City Councils and dedicates over 3.6 million towards park renewals and upgrades. Auburn Park will received $2,700,000 for a comprehensive upgrade of facilities and will become a sport and recreation hub for the local area. Bardo Park, in North Auburn, will also be revitalised.
Works will focus on:
- Playgrounds
- Amenities
- BBQs
- Improved lighting
- All age fitness stations
- Additional tree plantings
- Improved accessibility
- Children's Cycle Track
Upgrades to both Auburn and Bardo Parks are scheduled to begin in the second half of 2016.
An information session about Council upgrades to Auburn and Bardo Parks will be held on Wednesday 20 July, from 5pm to7pm at the Auburn Centre for Community, 44a Macquarie Road, Auburn.

Live Green, Waste Less, Save Money
Do you have a small electrical item in need of repair? Cumberland Council, together with
Granville Men's Shed, will host a free Electrical Repair Cafe on Saturday 23 July, from 10.00am to midday and from midday to 2pm at 243 Clyde Street, South Granville (corner Bennett Rd and Clyde St).
A qualified electrician will facilitate the repairs of small electric items, like vacuum cleaners, lamps, and toasters, and there will be tips on general household fix-ups, like tap repairs. A free BBQ will also be provided from 1:30pm.
The Electrical Repair Cafe is part of a series of sustainability workshops presented by Cumberland Council to help residents reduce waste in the home and garbage sent to landfill. For more information contact Cumberland Council Waste Initiatives Project Officer, Nicole Collas on 9840 9690.

Call out for Petfest stall holders
Stall applications are now open for this year's PetFest, which returns to Holroyd Gardens on Sunday 11 September.
This year, the event will be bigger than ever, with an exciting program of events including high energy Jack Russell racing, the gripping FlyBall competition, and a host of entertainment and activities that will delight pet owners and animal lovers of all ages.
The event promotes responsible pet ownership and education. Entry is just a gold coin donation and all proceeds are donated to local pet rescue causes.

Flavours of Auburn Food Tours
Take a walking tour to discover the culinary delights of Auburn. Sample an array of delicious food from countries like Lebanon, China, Pakistan, Turkey, Afghanistan, Iran, and Iraq, as our guide leads you through the streets of Auburn, sharing the stories of the many cultures that call it home. Experience secret recipes passed down for generations, and finish the tour with a luscious lunch!
Cost is $50 per person (plus online booking fee) and tours are scheduled for the following dates:

Calling out to crafty people who work with wool...
Did you know that Peacock Gallery in Auburn used to have an indoor space filled with ferns and tropical plants?
Curator Glenn Barkley is seeking to re-create the fernery using the talents of local knitters, crocheters and weavers - anyone who has a knack with wool! He wants to fill the space with lots of woollen tropical type plants and the gallery will supply the wool. The plants don't have to be perfect (nature isn't) and everyone is welcome to participate, including local arts and crafts groups. All pieces need to completed by the end of July.
You can create on your own or there are workshops to support your creativity at:
- Nick Nack Knitters, Berala Community Centre, every Friday from midday to 2pm
- Makers Circle at Peacock Gallery from 11.30am to 1.30pm on Thursday, 4 August

2016 Cumberland Art and Photography Awards Exhibition
Don't forget to visit the Cumberland Art and Photography Awards exhibition at the Peacock Gallery in Auburn Botanic Gardens, on display until 31 July.
Come and see your community through the eyes of our local artists, and vote for your favourite works in the 'People's Choice' awards. The art and photographic work with the most votes at the end of the exhibition will be awarded the $100 People's Choice Award.
The gallery is open Tuesday to Sunday from 11am to 4pm. Visit on a Sunday and join in the 'Creative Connections' workshop - a fun, free program of arty activities for all ages and abilities, held from midday to 3pm. (Children must be accompanied by an adult).
