A Message from the Superintendent

Dear Lovejoy Community:

The administration building reopened on Monday after our two week summer break. My family and I spent almost two weeks at South Padre Island and it was great. I even had the bonus of running into one of our Lovejoy parents at Blackbeards.

Summertime finds our teachers enjoying their time off.  Summertime also finds our teachers enjoying learning opportunities, which in turn enhance the learning experiences of our students in the classroom.  Pictured from left to right:  Holly Haynes, Alison Healey, Regina Hutcheson, Angie Rexford, and Melody Herring.  They recently completed two weeks of intensive Take Flight training, which is a dyslexia program.

A number of our students are involved in scouting, and it is always a pleasure to recognize their accomplishments in this area.

Dylan Grayson Smith recently attained the rank of Eagle Scout.  His Eagle Project served Creekwood United Methodist Church, the Charter Organization Sponsor of Troop 358.  The project involved constructing benches and reconfiguring the existing sand volleyball court into a large sandbox which the church needed for their preschool summer camp program.

Preston A. Nicol also recently attained the rank of Eagle Scout. His Eagle Project served the Heard Natural Science Museum and Wildlife Sanctuary. His project involved replacing 50 feet of existing boardwalk on the Wood Duck Trail to allow visitors to safely explore the sanctuary.

We extend our sincerest congratulations to both Preston and Dylan in achieving the highest rank in Boy Scouts.

Lauren Payne, a Junior at Lovejoy High School, competed at the National HOSA Competition in Nashville, Tennessee, this summer.  HOSA, or Health Occupation Students of America, is an organization with over 200,000 members which promotes and provides education regarding careers in the health care industry.  Lauren represented Texas in the Sports Medicine category.  Congratulations to Lauren on this significant accomplishment.

Lauren is pictured with her sponsor, Susan Smiley, during the opening ceremonies.

Members of 4H participate in many projects throughout the year.  All members compete at the county and regional levels.  Seniors, however, move to State if they win 1st place at District, much like athletic competitions.  Two Lovejoy Seniors, Kiersten Esposito and Emily Orr, competed in 4H Round Up, the state level-competition which was held in College Station, Texas.  Congratulations to Kiersten and Emily:

Educational Presentation - Public Speaking
2nd Place out of 24 Teams
Kiersten Esposito
Emily Orr
Kiersten and Emily presented "The Benefits of Music in Education"

Horse Quiz Bowl
1st Place out of 26 Teams
Kiersten Esposito
(Kiersten competed with 3 other students from Collin County)

Congratulations to Willow Springs Middle School football.  One-hundred-thirty-three teams across the State of Texas qualified to compete in the largest 7on7 event in the country. Five teams from Willow Springs competed with three teams finishing in the Top 3.  Pictured below are the 7on7 State Tournament Champions.  Congratulations to the students and coaches.

Lovejoy High School incoming Seniors, Callie Holden and Bailey Downing competed together with their team, TAV 17s Black, in the 2016 GJNC National Volleyball Tournament in Indianapolis, Indiana. They came home with the 1st place Gold medal and the National 17s Open Title.  Congratulations to Callie, Bailey, and their team.

Leadership TASB is a unique board development program designed to take experienced school board members to a new level of service and leadership by exposing them to a variety of issues, people, activities, and locations during a year-long program.  The program is composed of multiple training sessions held among a cohort group of 28 to 36 participants.  Class members are selected for demonstrated leadership in their local district and communities, and for their representation of the diversity of Texas school districts.

Our Trustee, and Board Secretary, Robbin Wells, recently graduated from Leadership  TASB as a Master Trustee.  Congratulations to Robbin on the completion of this program.  As always, we are thankful to Robbin, and all of our Board members for their commitment and dedication to the students and community that we serve.

Learning @ Lovejoy - Parent Opportunity

With access and exposure comes a great responsibility, of which people of all ages are lacking a true understanding - namely, the lasting digital footprint we create every day. Our young people have technology in their hands and access to an ever-growing and changing collection of digital content. They will always have technology and digital access, so why not explain their rights and responsibilities?
