Millennials Overtake Baby Boomers as Largest Generation*

According to US Census Bureau statistics crunched by the Pew Research Center, millennials have surpassed Baby Boomers as the nation's largest living generation. Millennials, defined as those ages 18-34 in 2015, now number 75.4 million, surpassing the 74.9 million Baby Boomers (ages 51-69). Soon to follow the Millennials, Pew states that Generation Xers (ages 35-50 in 2015) will pass the Boomers in population by 2028.

If not already, the impact of millennials will soon become a significant influence in the US workplace. Generational groups adopt personal, social and cultural habits that need to be considered in facilitating their job search and employment transitions. Those habits, along with their beliefs, attitudes and lifestyle preferences contribute to their definition of career satisfaction and success. Millennials, for example are the first generation to experience socialization via social media.

Trending in America ~ Why Millennials Don't Eat Breakfast Cereal*

According to a Mintel study, the reason millennials don't eat breakfast cereal is because of the "clean up" time required after the meal has been consumed. Almost 40% of the millennials surveyed by Mintel for its 2015 marketing intelligence report said cereal was an inconvenient breakfast choice because they had to clean up after eating it.

NAPS Certification Question ~ Earning Both the CPC and CTS Credentials

Question: My firm is engaged in both direct-hire and temporary placement. Should I seek both the CPC and CTS certification?

Answer: A growing number of staffing professionals have earned both the Certified Personnel Consultant (CPC) and the Certified Temporary Staffing-Specialist (CTS) certifications offered by NAPS. Both credentials are built upon an understanding of the laws governing employment transitions. However, the difference in the training manuals and certification examinations addresses how those laws affect or are applied in either direct-hire or temporary service situations.
