C.S. Lewis Institute
    Resources for Discipleship of Heart and Mind

Greetings!

Greetings in the name of our God and Savior, Jesus Christ! On behalf of the facilitators of the C.S. Lewis Institute - Annapolis (George Anderson, Sig Berg, John Bishop, Jim Hiskey, and Jim Phillips), I offer you this edition of the CSLI Annapolis Newsletter.

Mission of C.S. Lewis Institute:

The C.S. Lewis Institute was founded in 1976 in the legacy of its namesake as an organization which endeavors to challenge, educate, and disciple those who will, like Lewis, articulate, defend, and live faith in Christ through personal and public life. The Institute's vision complements the work of the Church, equipping thoughtful believers to impact their sphere of influence for Jesus Christ. This discipleship of heart and mind takes place by means of teaching, readings, and mentoring.

Mission of C.S. Lewis Institute - Annapolis:

The Mission of C.S. Lewis Institute - Annapolis is to extend the mission of the C.S. Lewis Institute to the Annapolis community, with a special passion for the students and faculty of Saint John's College and the U.S. Naval Academy. Ours is to disciple the people the Lord brings to us and connect them to each other so that they can lead the Church, the State, and the nations.

April Update:

Here are the key happenings at CSLI Annapolis this past month:

SJC men and women's fellowships come to an end with celebration events for graduating seniors;

Daniel and Sherene Khouri (defectors from Syria and members of Ravi Zacharias International Ministries Team) spoke to our Fellows, SJC fellowships, and USNA Sunday School Class on the History of Islam and the Situation in Syria;

Ten of our Year One Fellows have committed to continue into Year Two beginning June 2013;

Twenty-one people have applied for the Year One Program which begins in June 2013;

We have a group of twelve teachers at the Yanbian University of Science and Technology in Yanji, China doing the one year Journey Program with one of our Year Two Fellows serving as their facilitator;

A group of fifteen or more soldiers in Djoubouti, Africa are undertaking the ten-week Heart & Mind Discipleship Course with the sponsorship of the Catholic and Protestant Chaplains and one of our Year Two Fellows serving as the facilitator;

ELIC (English Language Institute China) has just received both the Heart & Mind and Journey Curriculums to be distributed to their 600 teachers throughout nine Asian countries;

And God is sending graduates of our Year One and Year Two Fellows Programs to places as far away as China and North Korea to make disciples of Jesus there.

In brief, God is drawing men and women from the world into the Annapolis community, discipling them here, then sending them out into their churches, communities, even the world, to make disciples of Jesus there. Annapolis is an "Antioch" that is becoming a training ground for followers of Jesus.

As our mission here is growing from local to global, so are our needs of people and resources. If you want to be a part of this exciting discipleship movement, just send me an email and I will be happy to meet/speak with you to discuss. [email protected].

Amy's Collegiate News:

This past month we had a fantastic afternoon hearing from the Khouris about Syria and the history of Islam. The format was somewhat different than what johnnies are used to but I got multiple comments as to how much they enjoyed it and found it fascinating. Our men's and women's weekly fellowships have had a wonderful time together this year and are now gearing down for summer. A small group of our women went for an overnight retreat last weekend together to stay out in the boathouse of some friends of the Institute. It was such a blessing to get to relax together and encourage each other and reflect a little on the school year! The men had their last fellowship meeting this Tuesday, and our women's fellowship are having our final meeting together this coming Wednesday.

Two weeks ago was a very fun Croquet weekend and we had the first of what we hope will be many fun SJC seniors and alum reunion gathering at the Aslan House that Friday evening. It was great to catch up with some former Christian fellowship johnnies at Croquet and hear about what's going on in their lives!

Things have since slowed a little with the end of the year rush to get papers finished and senior orals complete. We had one meeting two weeks ago for a book discussion on Lewis's The Great Divorce, and I'm hoping that we get to have one more this coming week. I'm already looking forward to doing more book discussions with Lewis's works with the johnnies in the fall! This next week we will have our final Christian fellowship dinner together and just celebrate the school year and all that God has done. Thank you so much for your prayers, and please pray for this final week and a half and for the seniors who are graduating!

Thank you for your prayers and support of CSLI Annapolis.

Please pray for the men and women associated with the Institute and the lives they have been entrusted to touch. Our ministry in Annapolis is not about numbers, it is about touching the lives of the men and women God brings to us before they go out into His service.

Aslan is on the move!

Sincerely in Christ,
