Happenings at the Resort...July 2016
Greetings from Port Ludlow -

Summer - and the living is easy.  Oh, boy - THIS is what we all look forward to - the long days, warmer times (a relative statement, of course, since we rarely get out of the 70's and our friends throughout much of the US are scorching in the 100 plus range....) and the slow sunsets.

LOTS going on with the Totem Potlatch Lunch, our local favorites - Don and Vicki Corson of Camaraderie hosting a winemaker dinner and all of the action at Finnriver's new location including our Farm Dinner at the community trough in August.

The music scene is hot with all that is happening at Fort Worden - the new location of the Olympic Music Festival too.

Summer means visits from friends and family...pretty excited to have a dear friend in from Tucson (can you blame her for escaping the HEAT?) and my youngest brother and his family heading this way soon - they will enjoy crab, oysters, golf and hikes with us - a bit of a different scene than what they are accustomed to in KC!

Lots of action in our home-building arena - the cottages continue to be "hot sellers" and the next project will be underway soon at Olympic Terrace II. A model home is planned for late 2016 and the homes will range from 1500 - 2500 square feet in one of the most beautiful areas of Port Ludlow.

Our "resident blogger" has been very busy with adventures on the Olympic Peninsula. Check this one out about her time discovering CIDER
We had a blast with our Kids Tasting last weekend. The new menu will be available mid-July and we are thrilled with their expert guidance on what should (and should NOT) be included. Let's just say that the ROOT BEER FLOAT was a winner on all counts!

P.S. Here's a new twist on the contest.  Send us a photo of YOUR FAVORITE summer scene.  (send to dwardrop@portludlowresort.com please)......We will pick the top three favorites and each will get a "SUMMER" treat in turn. Photos must be e-mailed no later than July 15th and it will be assumed that we can use them for the future newsletter. (along with your name.)
The winner from last month was Jennifer Martin and she won lunch for two at the 4th of July Totem Pole Potlatch. Amazing how many knew that the photo was SEA BEANS - no, it was NOT a golf driving range tee box! Nor was it horse tail - that prehistoric nuisance that many of us fight!
Golf.
Are you heading over play a round at the golf course? Check out our Port Ludlow Golf Course Pro Tips straight from our PGA Professionals with tips on how to best play the course.

Do you need to brush up on your skills? How about joining us for one of the Saturday Morning Clinics with Ted Wurtz, PGA Teaching Professional? The clinics are hosted at 10:00 am at the Golf Course and are limited to six people per clinic. Contact the Pro Shop for more information or to sign-up for a clinic at 360.437.0272.

And CONGRATULATIONS to Coach Darren Posey - Coach of the Year - and his rookie season with the Chimacum High School Golf team. Way to go, Darren!
Marina.
Are you participating in the Port Ludlow Marina Crab Derby? The Crab Derby began on June 16th and will continue until September 7th.  Participants who catch the largest crab each week win a $10 gift certificate to The Resort and the season winner will win a $100 gift certificate (and bragging rights.) Call the Marina at 360.437.0513 for more details or to register. (rumor has it that frozen turkey legs are THE choice of bait this year...)

We're excited to share that from July 8th - 18th Lady Washington, t he official ship of the state of Washington, and the Hawaiian Chieftain, will visit the Marina. There will be a variety of tours and excursions while the boats are in Port Ludlow. For more the schedule, pricing, and booking, click here .  This is such a cool thing to see in our bay and a really fun time on board as well.

Inn.
The Camaraderie Wine Dinner is NEXT Thursday. Join us for a fun and educational wine dinner with winemaker, Don Corson. We LOVE his wine, his enthusiasm and his way of making everyone feel special and important...besides his storytelling skills.

And we are back on the farm on August 11th for the Finnriver Farm Dinner  at the Finnriver Orchard. (new location, memorable setting and remarkable food....)  Join the Finnriver Farmers and Chef Dan to celebrate the summer harvest at the farm. It is not to be missed!

Join me in welcoming our newest team member, Thomas Skipper.  (do we have a trend here, first Stacy Beich - prounounced BEACH, our Director of Rooms and now Thomas SKIPPER...nautical theme?)  Anyway, Thomas is our Dining Room Manager and comes to us with lots of interesting experience in the F&B world.  Please stop in and say hello - he's the one with the name badge saying he is from New York, NY.
We have several packages  to choose from including golf packages, touring the local Chimacum Valley Farms, (check out the lovely story in that link from Edible Seattle last month - loved the promotion and our farm package continues to create the WOW factor for our guests that enjoy the hands on experiential travel). Or, to keep it simple, select Dine & Unwind...two things we are pretty good at offering!
