THIS WEEK'S SCRIPTURE
PASTOR'S BLOG

Greetings Cascade Family and Friends,

As I traveled into my office for worship this past Sunday morning, I had a very brief conversation with West, one of our security officers. In that brief conversation, I was reminded of the importance of keeping ourselves properly hydrated during these summer months so as to regulate and maintain a healthy body temperature. So, I thought that as the first part of this brief sharing, I would simply remind you how important it is to pay attention the temperature outside and respond appropriately. I am hearing way too many stories, way too frequently, of people passing out due to dehydration. With that, I urge you, friends of ALL ages to please pay attention to the heat.

Summer's heat isn't the only temperature I encourage you to pay attention to. Let's also be mindful of our emotional and spiritual temperature. Summertime is such a busy time. We can easily get "caught up" and quickly lose sight of ourselves in the process. Don't do this! Pay close attention to how the activities to which you have committed are impacting your well-being. Hold fast to the ingredients for a peaceful, productive life as the Apostle Paul recommended in Philippians 4:8:  And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.

If you find yourself feeling more anxiety than joy, more pressure than peace, stop and "hydrate" your inner spirit. You can do this by simply inviting the Holy Spirit to come and abide within you. Take time to be still and get quiet and watch how quickly the Spirit of God will comfort, take control and direct your talk and your walk. As a result, you will find that you have the ability to stop sweating the small stuff. In time, you will also realize that most of it is indeed "small stuff." Think about it and give it a try-IT WORKS!

Blessings,
Pastor Lawrence L. Young
